Samsung Galaxy S5 Launch Date Rumors Return to MWC Adam Mills01/30/2014 A new report suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S5 launch date will land on February 24th, or, the day that Mobile World Congress 2014 kicks off in Barcelona, Spain. And while it’s entirely possible, prospective Samsung Galaxy S5 buyers should not buy into the rumor, at least not yet. A Samsung Galaxy S5 rumor avalanche continues to pound consumers across the globe, detailing everything from prospective features to possible launch dates and release dates. As some rumors start to firm up, others remain a little less concrete as we march closer to an eventual Samsung Galaxy S5 launch.Advertisement Samsung Galaxy S5 rumors have been unable to pinpoint the exact month, or date, for the Samsung Galaxy S5 launch or the Galaxy S5 release. Rumors have hovered around two windows in particular, though, neither of them has been confirmed. Earlier this month, Flavio, the man who accurately leaked last year’s HTC One announcement date, claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S5 launch would take place in London in mid-March. This mirrored a report from SamMobile which placed the Galaxy S5 launch date inside the month of March as well.Advertisement A recent report from Bloomberg asserts that the Galaxy S5 will be released by April though it did not detail a specific launch date or launch month for Samsung’s next Galaxy.Advertisement More recently, Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin suggested that the Galaxy S5 would launch ahead of Mobile World Congress on February 23rd. He quickly backtracked on that assertion, saying that Samsung still hadn’t made up its mind but that it was apparently focusing in on London for a launch venue. Interestingly, Samsung Galaxy S5 launch date rumors have returned to Mobile World Congress today, thanks to a report from Rappler. The site claims that sources have informed them that Samsung is going to host an Unpacked event at MWC 2014 on February 24th, or, the day that the event kicks off. While it’s entirely possible that Samsung has selected the first day of Mobile World Congress for its Galaxy S5 launch event, this new rumor smells fishy. If Samsung were to announce the Galaxy S5 at Mobile World Congress, it would likely be on February 23rd, not February 24th. Samsung typically announces its Galaxy Note the day before the start of the IFA conference in Berlin, not on the first day of the conference.Advertisement It likely doesn’t want other announcements to interfere with its own announcement. It’s why the company has branched off doing its own launch events with the Samsung Galaxy S. It wants all the attention to be on the Galaxy S launch. Samsung is already rumored to be debuting a number of other products at MWC, products that would take the focus away from the Galaxy S5. Furthermore, February 24th is loaded up with events including a talk from Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO. Zuckerberg’s talk would take away from the Galaxy S5’s spotlight, something that Samsung likely wouldn’t want. We should also point out that Rappler, a citizen journalism site, has not established a track record, something that makes the rumor a little less believable than it already is. That said, at the moment, the Galaxy S5 launch date remains unconfirmed and could remain that way until Samsung sends out invitations for a media event for MWC or another event entirely.Advertisement Samsung Galaxy S5 rumors point to another big release for Samsung. Whispers suggest that it will come with a 5.2-inch QHD display, speedy processor, 16MP camera, Android 4.4 KitKat, a fingerprint reader, and a launch on the five largest carriers inside the United States including AT&T, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
