Samsung Galaxy S5 Accessory Avalanche Roars Ahead of Launch

Published

on

A Samsung accessory avalanche engulfed both the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 before their respective launches and now, it appears that an avalanche is impacting the Samsung Galaxy S5 as well as a number of Galaxy S5 accessories, including one official accessory, have been discovered a few weeks ahead of its launch date.

The Samsung Galaxy S5, while heavily rumored, remains in the shadows. Galaxy S5 rumors continue to offer more questions than answers and that could be the case all the way up until its launch date, rumored to be February 24th at Samsung’s Unpacked 5 Episode 1 launch event at Mobile World Congress.

One thing that may not remain a mystery is the stable of accessories that manufacturers, including Samsung, are poised to release for the Samsung Galaxy S5, one of the year’s hottest smartphones. We’ve already detailed a number of Galaxy S5 accessory listings including some from Spigen and today, we’ve unearthed a trove of prospective Galaxy S5 accessories.

Earlier today, Howard Chu unearthed what appears to be a listing for a Samsung Galaxy S5 Flip Wallet, an accessory that was one of the staples for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The interesting thing here is that this is the first listing we’ve seen for an official Samsung Galaxy S5 accessory.

Gotta Be Mobile dug around and found a similar listing on Amazon Canada. The listing is from Samsung itself and it’s for a EF-WG900BLEGCA Flip Wallet GS5 Blue Black. There are no details and price and release date remain absent. Amazon listings for Spigen products put the estimated release date around the middle of April. Galaxy S5 release date rumors point to April.

We’ve discovered the same listing on Pure Mobile and sure enough, it appears to be an official Samsung accessory. The site makes it clear, several times, that this is for the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Gotta Be Mobile has also found a number of other Galaxy S5 accessory listings around the web today, teasing consumers with everything from a wallet folio to a case. We’re seeing listings from Griffin and Incipio. While these are likely placeholders, we do see iMobile-Wireless use a Galaxy S5 image above the listings, a sign that this is where Galaxy S5 accessories will show up.

Samsung is expected to debut a number of Galaxy S5 accessories including a new health band and a Galaxy Gear 2, but it also looks like there could be a healthy dose of third-party Galaxy S5 accessories as well. Accessory makers probably won’t announce their wares until after Samsung debuts the Galaxy S5 which means that consumers could be waiting several weeks for announcements to arrive.

February 24th is currently the date that most have circled on their calendar. It’s the day that Samsung is hosting an Unpacked 5 launch event and the date lines up with rumors that emerged before Samsung sent out invites. In addition to a large amount of accessory options, it’s looking like the Galaxy S5 itself will present consumers with a solid smartphone option.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to come in two different models, one premium and another more budget. The premium model is rumored to have a 5.2-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 800 processor, 16MP camera, 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.2 KitKat, and quite possibly, a metal design. The budget model is thought to have a full HD display, an Exynos 5 processor, 16MP camera, 2GB of RAM, and Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Rumors suggest that at least one Galaxy S5 variant will be made out of plastic.

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 will be facing stiff opposition from the beginning with HTC rumored to be announcing an HTC One successor in the HTC M8 in March.

It might seem like a small thing, but if the power and volume buttons are positioned like the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S4, I’m going with a different phone. I’m done with over 2 years of accidental pressing of those buttons and awkwardly positioning my fingers to avoid them.
