iPhone 6 Photos Called Into Question

Alleged iPhone 6 photos that emerged from credible sources yesterday are being called into question today by others thanks to sleuth work that appears to unearth the secret behind the origins of these supposed iPhone 6 pictures.

In the past few weeks, we’ve seen Samsung Galaxy S5 and iPhone 6 rumors duel each other ahead of the Galaxy S5’s expected launch date on February 24th. Leaks have pointed to numerous supposed features in an attempt to outline both flagship smartphones before they arrive on shelves later this year.

iPhone 6 leaks took an interesting turn yesterday when credible sources, including Sonny Dickson, leaked what were considered the first possible look at Apple’s brand new iPhone for 2014. Dickson is a well-known leakster who have has leaked out credible Apple parts in the past though it appears that the photos did not originally come from Dickson and are from an anonymous Twitter account. Because Dickson posted the photos, they were given more credibility than they would have otherwise.

Today, the walls have come crashing down. Thanks to some eagle eyed readers on Reddit, it appears that these were just insanely detailed fakes that were passed off as a potential prototype. Instead of iPhone 6 prototypes, these are simply devices based off of renders created by our friend Martin Hajek.

Hajek is well known for creating extremely life-like renders of rumored smartphones. He produced a Samsung Galaxy S4 concept for Gotta Be Mobile prior to its launch last year.

These are now believed to be fakes based on renders from Martin Hajek.

The evidence lies in the smallest details. While the phones appear to be real, and even line up with rumors that we’ve heard about the iPhone 6, the smudge texture that Hajek used on his renders gave these well done fakes away. What this means is that the real iPhone 6 remains a mystery, something that isn’t surprising given how early in the year it is.

The real iPhone 6 is rumored to have a larger display, something that is depicted in the renders above.

The Wall Street Journal believes the company will deliver a 4.5-inch and a 5+-inch iPhone 6. NPD DisplaySearch believes that two iPhone 6 models with higher resolution displays will be coming in 2014. A KDB Daewoo Securities report uncovered by OLED-Display includes two iPhone 6 display sizes. Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, who accurately predicted many iPhone 5s features, thinks Apple is planning an iPhone 6 with a screen between 4.5-inches and 5-inches.

Sources simply cannot agree on the exact size of the iPhone 6 screen which means that Apple is likely toying with several different sizes ahead of the device’s launch date.

The iPhone 6 design will allegedly take cues from the aluminum designs Apple is known for.

Apple’s iPhone 6 isn’t expected to touch down for several months with rumors pointing to a launch in the summer or in the fall. Apple’s last three iPhones arrived during the fall with September and October used as the company’s launch and release months.

In the buildup to last year’s iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, we did see a number of real parts leak, so it’s possible that we could see authentic iPhone 6 photos emerge ahead of the device’s launch later on this year.
