Did Samsung Just Show us the Galaxy S5?

The new Samsung Galaxy S5 teaser includes a photo of a couple on a beach holding two Samsung smartphones, one of which could possibly offer a first glimpse at the Galaxy S5.

At thirteen seconds into the Galaxy S5 Unpacked teaser trailer Samsung shows an outdoor scene for half a second with two users looking up at two Samsung smartphones. Neither phone is easy to identify, but the one on the left could be a first look at the Galaxy S5, assuming it is not just a very odd shot of an existing Samsung device.

The device on the right is a Samsung branded smartphone with what appears to be a melting ice cream case that partially covers the front of the phone. It’s an odd choice for a teaser video, but fairly common.

Is Samsung teasing part of the Galaxy S5, or is this a current phone with photography tricks?

The device on the left, positioned in the center of the Galaxy S5 teaser and partially obscured by the “outdoor” text doesn’t appear to be an exact match for known Samsung Galaxy devices. After comparing it to the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 3 we couldn’t identify a phone with the same bezel style and thin appearance.

The top bezel and the edge of the phone don’t appear to match the Galaxy S, with a slightly different curve at the top corner and no bright silver trim on the left side of the device. The phone appears thinner with much less visible depth compared to the device on the left.

This Samsung device does not show volume buttons on the left side, appears quite thin compared to another device on screen and features a bezel that doesn't exactly match the Galaxy S4.

The lower portion of device is obscured so it’s not clear if there is a home button or a new lower design. Samsung is reportedly including a fingerprint reader in the Galaxy S5, possibly in the home button.

This could simply be a photoshop job that changed the appearance of an existing device slightly. If this is not the Galaxy S5, the phone is either positioned just right to hide any signs of thickness or volume buttons on the left side, or someone slimmed down the phone in a photo editing application.

In 2013 Google leaked the existence of the Nexus 5 in a promotional video for Android 4.4 KitKat which sparked interest in the device and helped stir up coverage as well as a flurry of additional leaks. Samsung is traditionally guarded about smartphone design so it would be a surprise to see the Galaxy S5 here

If this is not the Galaxy S5, hopefully someone can identify the Samsung device.

It looks like an S4 Active, which would make sense since they are on a beach.
