Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat Release: New U.S. Update Close

Published

on

A new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update has been spotted for the United States as carriers look to keep up with the likes of the Sprint and U.S. Cellular, both of which who rolled out the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update earlier this month.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update roll out is underway in the United States but the update remains confined to two carriers. Sprint and U.S. Cellular remain the only carriers with Galaxy Note 3’s running Android 4.4 KitKat though that should certainly change in the weeks ahead.

A few days ago, the unreleased AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update made an appearance on Samsung’s website, a sign that the update is getting closer, and today, the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update’s source code has emerged on Samsung’s website, a sign that the update is very close.

Samsung posted the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900T) Android 4.4 KitKat update to its Open Source site for developers. As noted by TMoNews, this is not the public release and those who aren’t developers or adept tinkerers should avoid the software. What it does mean is that a public release is probably close.

How close, we can’t say. What we can say is that we saw the Sprint Galaxy Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates posted in Samsung’s Open Source section just a few days ahead of their arrival.

Once the update is live, Samsung will likely post the details on its website. There, users will be able to find all of the details regarding the update and its features.

When it comes to features, the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update should mirror the two other updates that have hit the United States. It’s expected to be dominated by mainly Android 4.4 KitKat features though, as we’ve seen, it’s possible that T-Mobile will put its own twist on the update, adding its own fixes and enhancements.

We still haven’t seen the source code for the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update touch down but we have seen the update listed on Samsung’s website. It’s a sign that something is close for Galaxy S4 owners as well.

This leaves the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates as the only updates that have yet to show up. Verizon is historically last to major Android updates and it appears that the carrier might live up to its reputation with these two Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades. Nothing is set in stone but users should not expect Verizon to confirm dates ahead of time.

I doubt there’s anything I use my phone for that would be noticeably different from JB to KitKat, but that’s not the point. I pay a lot of money to have what I consider the best phone on the market, and yet I’m always left feeling like I’m the dude holding the Zack Morris phone while everyone else has moved on to flip phones. Thank you Verizon, thank you for taking nearly all the fun and excitement from spending so much of my hard earned money on the “top of the line device” that can’t get an update to save its life.

I could not agree more AJ. This crap is getting old. Heck, it was getting old 5 phones ago.

Verizon is the notorious for withholding updates especially when new flagship devices are so close to being released. Back in the days of HTC thunderbolt, Vzw held on to the 4.2 update until most of us had already bought new subsidized phones and 2 year contracts. Updates like Jb and Kk bring new features to devices making them seem fresh and exciting. Not many want to drop hundreds of dollars for new phones while we’re still thinking how great or current one is. Just saying, I will be very surprised if Vzw releases 4.4.2 to the N900V before the Gs5 hits the shelves…

verizon always seems to be behind the 8 ball they make all these promises , like 4G is everywhere, when sometimes I’m lucky to get even half a bar for a signal. what I should say is they dangle the carrot in front of us until it’s shriveled up. of course they will be the last to get 4.4.what can we do as a whole to let them know we’re sick of this S….?

Its 2014 all the carriers have good coverage in most of the country, but Verizon keeps charging the most for being last, again. Time to move on and shred the contract.

Well ATT is no better !!! Why should any carrier hold on to the updates ? I am agreeing with all the comments about dropping so much coin on the latest smartphones only to sit and wait because the phone I bought a few months ago ( note 3 only rolled out in October/November) does not have the latest OS. I burns to know that a phone I bought for its features -S Pen and business apps has to compete for an update when a phone geared for a different kind of consumer (not a business owner or one who prefers a Note 3) comes out out of the box with KK 4x. ATT!!! / Samsung !!! why can’t I get my KK 4x update over the air? Why we would still have to connect to my PC after downloading an application and then still have to hope the process when well? I read a lot of blogs and discussions about cell phones and the current and emerging technology that continues to offer so much to our world.
I am just ashamed to be in a country that is SO behind in the race. The European and Asian markets have us beat by leaps and bounds. US Carriers…it’s time to push competition for new customers aside and examine the way you treat the customers you do have. Doesn’t it make sense that if you keep us happy , that we HAPPY CUSTOMERS would bring you more business?

AJ….I am with you on that…Verizon is supposed to be the best network and yet always the last ones to send out the updates!
