iPhone 6 Leak Shows Larger Screen in Phone 5s Chassis

A new leak shows what may be the front of the iPhone 6. This leak shows a larger display on an iPhone that is the same size as the iPhone 5s.

This would allow Apple to satisfy users that don’t want a bigger device, and leave plenty of separation between this model and a larger iPhone 6 with a 5-inch or larger display.

iPhone 6 leaks generally involve supply chain sources that talk about Apple plans, drawing conclusions from chatter about parts and components, but a new iPhone 6 leak comes from a photo that shows three iPhone glass covers, one of which could be for the iPhone 6.

This alleged iPhone 6 cover shows a larger screen thanks to smaller bezels at the top and bottom of the iPhone and bezel free sides. This alleged iPhone 6 part leak arrives by way of Nowhereelse.fr, showing three iPhone front parts. The alleged iPhone 6 part is on the right, showing how Apple could put a larger screen in the iPhone 6 without making the iPhone bigger.

The iPhone 6 may feature a larger bezel-free display according to this photo, but it is still questionable.

The iPhone 6 may feature a larger bezel-free display according to this photo, but it is still questionable.

It is important to note that this may be a fake, where someone removed the black parts of the iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s display cover to support rumors of a larger iPhone 6. One major oddity is the placement of the home button, which nearly spills over on to the screen and is not aligned right in the middle of the bottom bezel. This looks like a very, un-Apple design choice.

A recent iPhone 6 leak turned out to be fake, which leaves us sharing this with skepticism, but also with some math to figure out the size of this display.

If this is a real iPhone 6 part it points to a iPhone 6 display that is in the range of a 4.4-inch or 4.5-inch display. By measuring the size of the iPhone 4s and iPhone 5s displays in the photo and the knowledge of those measurements in real life we estimate that the right-most iPhone display could support a 4.41-inch display – just over a 10% increase from the iPhone 5s.

That said, it is tough to know how the angle of the photo might impact our measurements, so this could just as easily be a 4.5-inch display. Multiple iPhone 6 rumors and leaks suggest Apple is planning an iPhone 6 with a bigger display and The Wall Street Journal report from earlier this year claims a 4.5-inch iPhone 6 is  in the works.

The Korea Herald published a report in February claiming the iPhone 6 will be bezel free, but this is questionable as the Herald’s source also claimed the Galaxy S5 would ship without a bezel and with a fingerprint reader built-in to the screen. The Galaxy S5 display features a bezel and it only includes a fingerprint reader in the home button.

In addition to a larger display, recent iPhone 6 rumors suggest we could see a Sapphire cover that is resistant to scratches and a better looking display underneath it with a wide color gamut and new quantum dot technology. The iPhone 6 release date is rumored for summer or fall, but a fall release seems more likely given recent rumors.
