Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Roundup

While most Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 users have their eyes on the upcoming Android 4.4 KitKat update, others are still waiting for Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to arrive. Fortunately, today, new Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, and even Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update details have emerged.

The Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update was first announced all the way back in July alongside the new Nexus 7. The update rolled out immediately for Nexus users, including Galaxy Nexus owners. Later in the year, the update started arriving for carrier-branded devices and non-Nexus devices.

In October, we saw a number of updates emerge. The Sprint Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update finally came out of hiding and Samsung announced a trio of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. Like most Samsung Android updates, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean served an important purpose.

In addition to Android 4.3 features, the update also would bring Samsung Knox for added security and support for the Samsung Galaxy Gear. Without Android 4.4 KitKat, owners of these devices do not have compatibility with Samsung’s accessory.

Starting in late October, these updates began to roll out. By the end of December, the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 updates had completed in the United States. However, updates still lingered in other places.

We’re now pushing into March and Samsung has not only begun rolling out Android 4.4 KitKat for the Galaxy S4, but it has also announced Android 4.4 KitKat updates for the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. Problem is, Android 4.3 is still lingering on some of these devices.

Today though, we’ve seen new Android 4.3 details surface, not only for Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 users, but also for Galaxy Nexus owners.

Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung’s current flagship, the Galaxy S4, might be in the midst of an Android 4.4 KitKat update roll out but there are still some that are waiting for Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Oddly enough, the three most visible, but missing, Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates reside in Australia.

Optus’ Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update remains in the same place that it was last week, meaning, the carrier still says that it aims to get it out in early or mid-March. It does not provide a specific date. Vodafone’s Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update is in even worse shape.

The carrier issues a weekly software schedule update for its users and today’s update shows that Android 4.3 simply hasn’t budged. Its testing is still being scheduled which means that it could still be weeks before users see Android 4.3 Jelly Bean roll out. At that point, we could be nearing the tail end of the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat roll out.

There is one piece of good news though. Telstra issued an update today and says that the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for Cat 4 users is now in testing. It offers an expected deployment date of March 24th.

The Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update has made a push today. Telstra finally confirmed an update for its 4G version of the Galaxy S3 and it says that it’s waiting for the update to be submitted by Samsung. While it’s confirmed, its expected roll out date is April 14th, or just about five months after the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update started to roll out.

Vodafone announced today that it has started pushing out its Galaxy S3 3G Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update. According to the carrier, it’s available to customers right now.

Unfortunately, Optus still hasn’t announced a roll out for its Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update, it still says March, and it looks like Telstra has run into some issues in testing with its Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S3 3G.

It claims that the update is in testing and that it expects to have it out by March 24th but it also claims that issues have been “identified in testing” are currently being assessed by Telstra and Samsung. How this will impact the speed of the delivery remains unclear.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Surprisingly, the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update has been pretty quiet though we can confirm that at least one update rolled out this week.

A reader on ThreeUK jubilantly confirmed to us that his Galaxy Note 2 finally received the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update earlier this week after a pretty lengthy wait.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Finally, there is some Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 update movement though it’s not from Verizon. Telstra confirmed today that it is now rolling out the Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 update and has been since late February. Those who don’t have the update can simply pull it from the settings on their device.

Vodafone still says that the update is waiting to deploy, Optus’ update seems to be in a standstill as well, and we still have not seen any sign of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 update.

I woke up this morning to the 4.4.2. KitKat update from Sprint in Cincinnati, OH on my S4/LTE, the update installed without any issues. “Flawless as a matter of fact” NO WIFI problems, email, text ,calling, nor SD-Card corruption as other have stated in their experiences on these forums, the battery life is fantastic too. “Totally painless and I thoroughly enjoy the newer O/S”.
