New Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat release details have surfaced today and they point to Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat releases in the months of April or May.

Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates were confirmed by Samsung USA several weeks ago. Days later, Sprint confirmed both of them for arrival in the United States. Samsung Poland also confirmed the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update for release. Thing is, none of these confirmations included release dates.

Fortunately, new information sheds light on when some Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 users can expect their Android 4.4 KitKat updates to arrive. From the looks of things, it could be just a few weeks before we see the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates touch down.

Samsung still hasn’t confirmed anything but Australian carrier Optus has. The carrier not only confirmed a Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update for arrival today, it pegged it with a tentative release date. The carrier claims that it expects to roll the update out in early-to-mid April. It does not provide a specific date. The carrier says it has not received the software from Samsung.

Optus’ information does not stand alone. A leak from JustAboutPhones asserts that Samsung is planning to release the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update starting in April or May. The document also says that the company is looking to roll the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update out around the same time.

Earlier rumors had put the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates in the month of March but it appears that that might be off the table.

These details come a few weeks after Samsung confirmed the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates for the U.S. At the time, Samsung Poland also confirmed a Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update for arrival but said that it would not be pushing out a Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update because it would not agree with the 1GB of RAM that the device has on board.

As for the features on board, these two updates are expected to deliver Android 4.4 KitKat features rather than massive changes to TouchWiz. Here is what Sprint says will be on board its Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates:

  • Location Menu: An integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities.
  • Enhanced Messaging: Hangouts now includes SMS and MMS and a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.
  • Upgraded Google Mobile Service (GMS) apps: Users can automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.
  • Updated Lock Screen Features: The lock screen now allows users to quickly access the camera with a new shortcut and view album art while music is playing.

These two updates will follow the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates which started rolling out to users several weeks ago.

Question: Why do you have a photo of a Samsung phone that displays a headline stating that “Why you’ll still buy the iPhone even as other phones get better.” Kind of a conflict of interest here, ya think?
