‘Assassin’s Creed: Unity’ Revealed

Published

on

Ubisoft, developer and publisher of the Assassin’s Creed series has formally revealed the setting of the next big console title in the series: Assassins Creed: Unity. Instead of holding a press conference or any sort of media day, the company instead choose to share the news with the series’ fans through a video on its YouTube channel.

The video includes scenes of Notre’ Dame, the famed church in Paris, France. It also includes buildings draped in France’s national colors and a guillotine, which was also used heavily during the French Revolution. The trailer then ends with a quick shot of Assassin’s Creed: Unity’s playable character. So far his identity and relationship to characters from the previous games is unknown. Assassin's Creed Unity Ubisoft has confirmed that everything seen in the trailer is actually in-game footage from the game’s alpha. It also indicates that it wasn’t ready to show the game just yet, hinting at the leaks about the game that surfaced earlier this week on Kotaku.

The interesting thing is the last few seconds of the video sneak-peak. It confirms that the Assassin’s Creed: Unity is only coming to the Microsoft’s Xbox One, Sony’s PS4 and PCs running Windows. Presumably, Ubisoft has plans for a separate game for users of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to purchase. That’s pretty bold since Ubisoft must be betting that new console owners buy Unity in droves to justify its separate development. By doing this, its likely Ubisoft is hoping to free the Assassin’s Creed: Unity development team from the shackles of making the game run on older consoles. In short, Assassin’s Creed: Unity should provide users with a gaming experience worthy of a next-generation console purchase.

Ubisoft didn’t formally announce a specific date for Assassin’s Creed: Unity, opting to just say that users can expect the game sometime this holiday season. Presumably that means a launch between October and November, just shy of the one-year anniversary of both the Xbox One and PS4’s launch. Apparently, Assassin’s Creed: Unity won’t be coming to Nintendo’s Wii U.
