Billy Joel and Jimmy Fallon Duet Makes iPad App a Co-Star

On the Tonight Show a Billy Joel and Jimmy Fallon duet killed it with an amazing version of The Lion Sleeps Tonight by forming a two-man Doo-Wop group with an iPad and an $8 app that let the two harmonize multiple vocals in just seconds.

Billy Joel is an accomplished musician and singer best known for the hit Piano Man, though he is also responsible for many other hit songs and Jimmy Fallon is well-known for singing with his guests in fun and sometimes magical ways.

During the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night Billy Joel, Jimmy Fallon and the Loopy HD iPad app took the stage to sing a fun duet with each singer actually carrying three parts.

Watch the Billy Joel, Jimmy Fallon duet below to see the app in action.  With the help of an app the two are able to cover The Lion Sleeps Tonight by The Tokens in a 4 part harmony.

Loopy HD is an iPad app that can record loops of music, beatboxing and instruments to play back in harmony. This allows users to record six looped tracks and then create a song that would normally require multiple instruments and players, by looping and stacking tracks on top of each other.

If you’ve seen any videos on YouTube of one person pulling off multiple parts of a well known song, they’ve stacked tracks using a similar method. The Loopy app on iPad is an $8 way to play with this feature on your own, and the $3 iPhone app version is powerful tool, but also fun to play with. In the duet on the Tonight Show, Joel and Fallow used microphones to deliver a great sounding on stage duet, but users that want to experiment with looping their music, sounds and more can just get going with a pair of headphones and a microphone.
