Kinect Sports Rivals Deal Gives Users $10 With Their Pre-Order

Gamers planning on picking up Kinect Sports Rivals may want to reconsider where they’ve pre-ordered the title. Microsoft’s own stores and website are giving every user who pre-orders the Xbox One’s first big Kinect game $10 back.

To be clear, Microsoft isn’t actually handing Kinect Sports Rivals buyers $10 cash. Instead, buyers will be sent the digital code along with their game. They’ll then have to redeem that code online or through the Xbox One itself. Microsoft gift cards can be used to purchase music through the Xbox Music software on Windows 8 or rent videos at XboxVideo.com too. Of course, buyers can also use the credit to purchase more games or downloadable content on the Xbox One itself.

The recently announced deal is in addition to the release day shipping the company is offering. Users who pre-order before 6 p.m. on April 6th will have their copy of the game delivered to them on launch day, April 8th.

Kinect Sports Rivals is the next-generation follow-up to the Kinect Sports titles for the Xbox 360. After letting the Kinect scan their face to create an in-game champion that looks just like them, users compete in refreshed sports from past games and a few new sports that have never been tried before. The game’s line-up includes bowling, soccer, tennis, jet-skiing and rock climbing. All told, the graphics and online multiplayer aspects of the game seem vastly superior to past Kinect Sports titles. The Xbox One’s Kinect 2 sensor higher-quality motion tracking should make the game a bit more challenging for users who are accustomed to gaming without a controller too.

Kinect Sports Rivals buyers should note that digital copies of games are purchased directly on Xbox.com or the Xbox Games Store on the console itself. The offer at the Microsoft Store is for a physical copy of the game. Users will be mailed a disc with the game on it. They’ll then have to install that disc’s contents on their hard drive and insert that disc before playing.

By comparison, digital titles can be played without having to insert a disc, and they’re accessible from any console that’s connected to Xbox Live. For example, buyers could go to a friend’s house, log into Xbox Live and download to play on that friend’s console as well. The game would stop working the moment they logged out.
