Samsung Galaxy S4 & Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Updates Make Progress

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update roll out is in full swing and a Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is confirmed for arrival and yet, there is still Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update progress to be made.

All the way back in October, Samsung announced a key update for its Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 smartphones. That key update was, and is, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, a piece of software that Google announced all the way back in July of last year and an update that delivers Galaxy Gear support, Samsung Knox security and more to Galaxy smartphone users.

Many of the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates rolled out in 2013. The U.S. completed all three of those roll outs before the end of the year. However, there are still some stragglers out there and some Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 owners have had their eyes on Android 4.3 and not Android 4.4 KitKat.

Today though, progress has been made. Vodafone Australia today announced that its long awaited Samsung Galaxy S4 (Cat 4) Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is finally available. The update brings Samsung Knox and Galaxy Gear support to the table, two features that some Galaxy S4 users have had since October of last year.

The carrier also says that its Samsung Galaxy S3 (LTE) Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is now undergoing testing ahead of its release. This means that a public release is probably a few weeks away which means that there is a chance it could coincide with the release of the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update that is rumored for April or May.

Unfortunately, there is still work to be done. Fellow Australian carrier Optus still owes Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates to its users and Telstra is still behind on its Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update. Telstra was forced to halt its Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean deployment due to issues. From what we can tell, the roll out still hasn’t fired back up.

This Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update progress comes in the midst of the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update, an update that has been rolling out since February. Samsung recently confirmed a Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update for arrival though the update is still without a concrete release date in Australia or anywhere else.

Android 4.4 KitKat isn’t as big as Android 4.3 Jelly Bean but it will still deliver enhancements, fixes and more to Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 owners. From the looks of things though, there are some Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 users who are going to be waiting awhile longer for Android 4.4 KitKat to emerge.
