Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat Updates Still MIA

Published

on

Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update details remain missing in action despite various other roll outs and confirmations including recent Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat developments. And it’s this lack of Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update information that should have some Galaxy S3 owners worried.

Earlier this year, Samsung started pushing out Android 4.4 KitKat updates to Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 owners around the world. The roll outs remain ongoing and will soon be joined by at least one other Android 4.4 KitKat update. In recent weeks, carriers have started to deliver specific details about the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update and from the looks of things, a release is imminent.

Oddly enough, the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update hasn’t shared the Galaxy Note 2 update’s good fortune. Instead, the update remains mired in mystery thanks to rumors and missing details.

Weeks ago, Samsung USA and Samsung Poland confirmed Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates. At the time, Samsung USA did not confirm the update for specific carriers though we know now that Sprint will be releasing the update sometime in the future. Other U.S. carriers will likely follow suit.

Samsung Poland though confirmed the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update for just one version of the Galaxy S3, the Galaxy S3 LTE, the same device that is available on carriers in the United States. The regional wing confirmed that it would not be issuing a Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update for the 1GB version of the Galaxy S3.

While Samsung still hasn’t said if it will update its GT-i9300 or its other 1GB variants with Android 4.4 KitKat, the news hasn’t been good. First, SamMobile’s Faryaab Sheikh confirmed that Samsung has yet to begin testing for the GT-i9300 Android 4.4 KitKat update. That was back in late March and while it doesn’t confirm that the 1GB model will stay on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, it at least implies that there will be a long wait. Other bits of evidence point in that direction as well.

Carriers that keep their customers in the loop about Android updates have yet to confirm Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates for arrival. For instance, Vodafone Australia confirmed a Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update weeks ago but still hasn’t said anything about a Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 update. Same goes for fellow Australian carrier Optus.

Maybe the most telling sign is the fact that French carrier SFR issued its monthly update schedule today and the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is nowhere to be found. The carrier’s update schedule stretches into May and includes the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update release, a release that is in the works for that month.

These carriers also offer the 4G version of the Galaxy S3 but it’s update still doesn’t have any kind of a target release. Even Sprint has yet to confirm a roll out date.

So from the look of things, at best, Galaxy S3 users are going to be in for a long wait for Android 4.4 KitKat. At the very worst, the update may not roll out at all like Samsung Poland suggests.

Rumors suggest that both the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates will emerge in either April or May and given the timing provided by SFR, it appears that could be true. It’s just not clear if it will be the case for the elusive Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update that, for whatever reason, remains missing in action at most places.

At this point, Samsung Galaxy S3 users would be wise to start tempering their Android 4.4 KitKat expectations.

I think Samsung should not play games in delaying Kitkat for Galaxy S3, in the hopes that current S3 users will purchase new S5 phones. I would think that disappointed customers do not owe brand loyalty and many would chose the HTC One (M8) or something similar instead. I for one will make the effort to leave Samsung.

I own an S3 i9300 and I’ve been waiting on kitkat since the day samsung forced me onto the very buggy jellybean update. If they don’t roll out kitkat for the S3 then for sure, this will be my last samsung handset

Agreed. I will not purchase another device from Samsung if S3 doesn’t have Kitkat by the end of May. I also don’t plan on placing my phone in my gold fish bowl for 30 minutes.

This is total crap. We were told an update would be in March and ir’s now April. I have 3 Samsung Galaxy 3’s and I am ready to throw them out the window. My husband has one, my daughter and then me. All of us can not dial out 85% of the time. Just said call ended. I pay telus close to $300.00 a month and I can’t dial out. The killer is telus saids it’s Samsung’s fault. It would be nice ti get sidelined of credit or hell why doesn’t Samsung flip the bill and send me 3 new Galaxy 4’s
But I will be waiting along time.

    Very disappointed with Samsung

And why does the galaxy ace style with 512mb of ram and a dual core processor run on kitkat? It doesn’t make sense to me.

My opinion is same that with Nikky. If they disclose the names of other Models for this Kitkat update is it not their duty to release update for I9300 at least to rectify the buggy 4.3 JB update
