Best Gadgets to Blow Your Tax Refund On

Published

on

If you’re in the market to blow your tax refund on something special, you’re in luck because there are a ton of cool consumer electronics that you can buy with that hard-earned money, and depending on how much you got back, there’s a device with your name and price range on it.

Most people that are smart with their finances will usually take their big tax refund and either save/invest it or  use it to pay off any kind of debt or loan (not to toot my own horn, but paying off my credit card debt felt absolutely amazing). However, you’re not like most people, and you’re wanting to find a piece of technology that you can splurge that big tax return on because we all know you deserve it after a year of hard work (or hardly working?).

The average tax return is around $3,000, which is a lot of green, and that’s just the average. If you’re lucky enough to have an above-average tax return (or even just an average return), you can use that wad of cash to treat yourself to a new smartphone, tablet, gaming console or laptop. Here’s a list of the best products you can buy under different price tiers based on how much money you received from your tax return.

Less Than $300

Less Than $300

For less than $300, you can get yourself a brand-new smartphone on-contract if you're eligible for an upgrade. The iPhone 5s, Galaxy S5 and the new HTC One M8 all start at $199 after you sign a two-year contract.

You can even grab a small form-factor tablet for less than $300, with the Nexus 7, 1st-gen iPad mini, Dell Venue 8 Pro, and Kindle Fire HDX all priced at under three Benjamins. Of course, higher-capacity models and LTE versions will see the price go up a bit, but $229 for one of the best Android tablets around is not a bad a deal at all.

On the cheaper side, you can pick up a streaming set-top box like the Apple TV, Roku and Fire TV, all are priced at $100 or less.
