Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 Release Continues Avoiding Verizon

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update release continues to roll out in the United States as yet another carrier not named Verizon has confirmed the beginning of its Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat roll out.

Back in February, Samsung started pushing out its long awaited Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update. The update, which was preceded by the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update, landed first for users on U.S. carrier Sprint. In the weeks since Sprint’s roll out, the update has landed for a number of other U.S. carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular. Yesterday, the update landed for AT&T’s Galaxy S4 Active, the rugged version of the Galaxy S4.

Samsung still has work to do in the United States and elsewhere though it’s clear that things are starting to pick up steam once again as another U.S. carrier has confirmed its Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat roll out.

Cricket, a smaller pre-paid carrier in the United States, confirmed that it’s rolling out the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update and has been for a couple of days now. The confirmation comes from the carrier’s Facebook account though it comes with extremely specific information that makes its decree credible. Here is what Cricket says about the Android 4.4 KitKat update for its Galaxy S4:

The update will start rolling out to Cricket GS4 phones on April 15th. So be on the lookout over the next two weeks for a notification message prompting you to download a new software update. We recommend backing up your contacts prior to starting the update. We’re working to make sure this transition is as seamless for you as possible, and that you have a phone and service plan you’re completely happy with.

The carrier also told another Galaxy S4 owner that not “everyone will receive the update on the first day, but it will roll out to everyone throughout the next two weeks.” In other words, it looks like Cricket’s roll out is a staggered one and Galaxy S4 owners are going to have to keep a close eye on their device throughout the process.

Typically, roll outs don’t take the full two weeks and most users will likely see the update emerge within the first week or so. There will be stragglers though so users simply need to remain patient and keep an eye out for an Android 4.4 KitKat update prompt.

Cricket’s roll out means that there are three Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates left in the U.S. C Spire and MetroPCS still owe Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates to their users and Verizon, one of the major U.S. carriers, still hasn’t said when it plans to roll out its version of the Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update.

A new leak from Android Geeks may shed some light on a release date though we’re skeptical about the information given how easy it would be to fake. The site leaked a supposed memo from Verizon that points to a possible release on May 2nd, several weeks from now. The document doesn’t possess any Verizon logos and certainly looks questionable.

Verizon typically does not share release dates ahead of time which means that Verizon Galaxy S4 owners are likely going to be flying blind into the Android 4.4 KitKat release. The carrier historically has released updates during the week instead of the weekend so Galaxy S4 owners will want to keep an eye out between Monday and Friday.

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates will be followed by a number of other Android 4.4 KitKat updates including updates for the aging Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. Samsung still hasn’t confirmed official dates for either of those devices but carriers have begun chiming in with detailed information.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update will likely be next in line and could roll out as soon as this week or next.  A recent rumor suggested that the update could start rolling out in the middle of this month though Samsung and its carriers still haven’t confirmed anything for their Galaxy Note 2 owners.

The Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is more of a mystery. U.S. carrier Sprint is the only carrier that has confirmed its arrival and the update remains without a release date. Yesterday, a credible source announced that the Galaxy S3 GT-i9300, the 1GB international version of the Galaxy S3, might never get the Android 4.4 KitKat update.

His claim falls in line with what we’ve seen and heard in the weeks since Samsung confirmed the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update for the United States. Until Samsung confirms its plans, the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update release will remain up in the air.

After those two updates, we should see devices like the Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy Mega, and more get updated to Google’s latest version of Android software.

C Spire released kitKat 4.4.2 over 2 weeks ago for GS4. I work for them and the update appeared on my phone without any internal release info. Just woke up one day and there it was. They sent a release memo internally but I never saw any external communication.

That’s what I was thinking. They’re always an update or 3 behind. Why is it so hard to get them out shortly after the updates are available to other carries? They’re ALWAYS dragging ass

US Cellular canceled the S4 update due to SD card issues. To date, there is no timeline from them on when or if it will be released again.

Verizon can’t even give us this update months later, they cut the download booster out of the GS5, struggling for find a reason to stay with this truly pathetic company.

I don’t know why people stress about updating to the latest version. What more can your phone do not really much it just brings more bloat ware taking up space. I have the Verizon galaxy note 3. And don’t care for the update as I will probably get the note 4 the day it comes out as many of you would do. Most of us upgrade our phones every yea. But yet you still complain about a update that don’t really bring much to the table. It’s not like the at&t version with the wifi issue. Far as I know Nothing is wrong with the phone. I been using for some time now and haven’t had any problems. The update is not a big deal. And I rather wait for it and have verizon double check every thing then get it now and my phone messes up. Like the galaxy s3 did with the 4.3 update. And if you can wait and want to complain that much then get on your computer download the files to root and install custom rom. I had 4.4 on my s3 when it was still in beta. Yeah it was okay but nothing to stress when your gonna be getting it. Switch if you want faster updates but I travel and verizon is the only service provider that I have had that picks up any where and I do mean any where I go. With 4G most of the time. Name another carrier that can do that. I traveled cross country Nevada to Georgia with 4G all the way. The rest can’t do it. So switch but you’ll wish you would of just waited on that simple update.

Verizon will not fix my s3 4.3 bugs like battery drain and lagging until the galaxy s7 or galaxy s8 comes out so I give up and buy a new phone silly.

Does anyone know if there is a way to permanently avoid the KitKat 4.4 software upgrade notification box because I DO NOT want to update the software on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3?

I’ve been using an app for several years now that allows me to turn my phone into a Mobile Hotspot by using my phones data plan which I’m still on an unlimited data plan……, however it will no longer work once I update to the 4.4 Kitkat software upgrade.

PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanks for any help! Amanda
