Verizon Fuels Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Rumors (Updated)

Published

on

The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update remains missing in action, without any official details, but that hasn’t stopped Verizon customer service representatives from fueling Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat rumors.

Earlier this year, Samsung started pushing out a couple of big Android 4.4 KitKat updates. In January, the company started rolling out its Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade. In February, it started pushing out its Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update. Both updates started off slow but have since picked up the pace.

Update: The Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update is rolling out today.

The Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades have both landed for a number of different devices in a number of different regions including the United States. American carriers were on the forefront of both of these updates as Sprint and U.S. Cellular were among the first carriers in the world to push these updates live. Sprint was the first carrier to release the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update.

Since then, we’ve seen AT&T update its Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3 and its Galaxy S4 Active though the carrier was recently forced to postpone its Galaxy S4 Active Android 4.4 KitKat update in an effort to tack on “improvements.”

Weeks ago, T-Mobile rolled out its Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 updates and we’ve even seen Cricket Wireless, a pre-paid carrier, push out its Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 upgrade. Despite these roll outs, Verizon’s Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades have remained in the shadows.

Verizon, the United States’ largest carrier, is notoriously slow when it comes to Android upgrades. The carrier historically has trailed behind rivals AT&T and T-Mobile when it comes to software upgrade speed. In addition to being slow, the carrier typically does not release release details ahead of time, a policy that leaves its users in the dark and dependent on rumors.

Often times, rumors are non-existent. In the case of the Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update, we’ve seen some unconfirmed details leak out ahead of time. Earlier this month, Android Geeks released a piece of evidence that suggests that Verizon could be targeting May 2nd for a Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat roll out. The evidence is flimsy but it’s the only evidence.

As we noted in our Android 4.4 KitKat breakdown, we’ve received several tips from Verizon Galaxy S4 owners who claim to have talked to loose-lipped Verizon customer service reps. One reader told us that a representative informed him that Verizon’s tech team and infocenter confirmed that the update would be coming in May.

He also said that they told him that the Galaxy Note 3 KitKat update would arrive around the same time, along with a couple of other Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades that he can’t recall.

Today, he’s sent us another chat that he had with a Verizon customer service representative. While the representative does not confirm a specific date for the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat roll out, she does say that the update was confirmed by the carrier’s quality assurance team and that the update is set to “roll out as scheduled.” She adds that he should expect the update “shortly.”

Customer representatives aren’t the most reliable sources of information but her information is so detailed that it’s hard to think that she doesn’t have legitimate inside information. At the very least, it looks like Verizon customer service representatives are doing nothing to dispel the Verizon Galaxy S4 rumors that have been swirling around.

Of course, this exchange pertains to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update, not the missing Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update. It still doesn’t have a release date, rumored or official, but there is a chance that it could roll out around the same time the carrier pushes out the Galaxy S4’s Android 4.4 update.

Sprint and U.S. Cellular pushed out their Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 updates in close proximity to one another and we saw Verizon deliver the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 updates around the same time.

While Verizon’s Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates will be the last amongst major U.S. carriers, there are a couple of Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates that remain missing alongside Big Red’s

C Spire Wireless and MetroPCS have yet to roll out their versions of the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update and the carriers still haven’t offered any detailed information about the roll outs. These smaller carriers, like Verizon, typically do not release roll out information ahead of time. Users will likely be told about the roll outs on the day that the updates roll out.

As for what’s next, rumors suggest that Google will be announcing a brand new Android update this summer alongside a brand new Nexus tablet called the Nexus 8. The Nexus 8 is expected to be a high-end replacement for the Nexus 7 and deliver an impressive feature set in an effort to challenge Apple’s iPad mini with Retina Display.

The device is rumored to have a brand new Android 4.5 update on board though Android 4.5, for the moment remains firmly in the shadows.

Thanks, Kevin!

3 of us with S4’s in my office are downloading the kitkat goodness now. NOTE – we all got the same updates not available error before the download would start. We are waiting on a 4th person in the office with a VZW S4 to try out the update process as well.

Just checked and my S4 has the ‘update’ ready to install but im hesitating to install it because Google once again blocked SD support…even after Samsung overrided the block with the last Android update…Google seems to be implementing Apple’s way of thinking more and more and its really pissing me off!
