Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.3 KitKat Update Rumored

Google still isn’t talking about the rumored Android 4.4.3 KitKat update but a fresh round of rumors indicates that the update is not only still on the way but that a Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update is in the works behind the scenes.

Weeks ago, Android 4.4.3 KitKat update rumors starting swirling. Those rumors suggested that Google was working on a massive bug fix for Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems and that the update would be rolling out to Nexus 7, Nexus 4, Nexus 10, and Nexus 5 users at some point in the future.

Over the past few days, it has become clear that Android 4.4.3 KitKat isn’t just an update for Google’s collection of Nexus smartphones and tablets. It’s likely going to be coming for Google’s Google Play Edition devices, the Moto X, the HTC One M8, and the original HTC One as well. None of those updates are confirmed but they appear likely.

Today, another key Android 4.4.3 KitKat update hit the rumor mill and it would appear that Samsung is working on an upcoming update for its flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S5.

According to SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update is in the works. It’s not clear which models will be getting the update nor is it clear when the update might get released to the public. However, it does appear as though testing on the Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update has begun internally.

Given that Android 4.4.3 KitKat remains unreleased for Google’s Nexus devices, a roll out for the Samsung Galaxy S5 likely isn’t close. Nexus devices typically get updated weeks before non-Nexus smartphones and tablets. In other words, Galaxy S5 owners should not be checking their phones quite yet as things could still be a ways off.

It also appears that Samsung might skip Android 4.4.2 KitKat for some devices and move directly to Android 4.4.3 KitKat. It’s not clear which devices might get the Android 4.4.3 upgrade. Some devices like the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 are already in the midst of an Android 4.4.2 KitKat roll out so there chances are less than others.

Devices like the Samsung Galaxy Mega and Galaxy S4 mini, devices that have seen their Android 4.4 KitKat updates confirmed, are certainly candidates for the possible jump.

Unfortuantely, it’s still not clear when the Android 4.4.3 KitKat release will arrive. Recently, the well sourced HTC ROM developer and leakster LLabTooFeR noted that the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update could be deployed in May.

Last month, he released a brand new unofficial HTC software update schedule that revealed a number of new details about Android 4.4.3 KitKat. His leak not only pointed to a possible release window for HTC devices, it confirmed HTC’s plans to issue Android 4.4.3 to the HTC One M7 and HTC One M8. At the time, he proclaimed that the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update for those devices would emerge in May or June.

Weeks ago, Sprint confirmed an Android 4.4.3 KitKat update for its version of the Nexus 5. Days later, the carrier announced that the update had been delayed due to unspecified reasons. The carrier’s Nexus 5 support page still lists the delay though Sprint recently shut down the discussion regarding the update. It claims it doesn’t have an ETA from Google.

Google itself recently updated its Edu Device Setup application on the Google Play Store. The application’s change log came with a peculiar reference to an update that still isn’t out:

  • Support for new Google Spreadsheets
  • Support for Android 4.4.3 and non-Nexus Tablets
  • Minor UI updates and bug fixes

Android Police, several weeks ago, said that the update would roll out in several weeks. That report was issued on April 9th so unless Google decided to kill the update, we could be extremely close.

Google’s Android 4.4.3 KitKat is said to be a massive bug fixer and contain more than three dozen bug fixes for Android 4.4.2 KitKat issues. Nexus users have been complaining about a variety Android 4.4 KitKat issues since November.

The full change log for Android 4.4.3 KitKat is still not clear but rumors suggest that it will come with over three dozen fixes for Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. The change log is said to include fixes for unstable data connections, camera focus, random reboot issues, missed call LED problems, VPN issues, and a whole lot more.

Android 4.4.3 KitKat is expected to be a bug fix update aimed at solving Android 4.4 KitKat issues though there is a chance that it could feature some other changes. An alleged Android 4.4.3 KitKat leak that emerged out of XDA-Developers last week points to a redesigned dialer with a brand new look. The device that is apparently using this redesigned dialer is a Nexus 5 running the unreleased Android 4.4.3 KitKat update.

The Android 4.4.3 update continues to be the giant elephant in the room though it should be only a matter of time before Nexus users, Google Play Edition users and users of other devices including the Galaxy S5 get the software upgrade.
