Top 5 Smartphones to Consider Before Buying the LG G2 [May, 2014]

Consumer attention has started to shift to the new LG G3 but that doesn’t mean that the LG G2 is completely out of the picture. In fact, even after the LG G3 arrives, the LG G2 will remain a top smartphone option.

At the beginning of last year, Samsung and HTC unfurled their 2013 flagships. The HTC One arrived in February and replaced the HTC One X+ as the company’s flagship in April. In March, Samsung announced the Galaxy S4, its flagship that replaced the extremely popular Samsung Galaxy S3. Like the HTC One, the Galaxy S4 arrived in April.

LG, one of their biggest competitors, decided to wait to launch its 2013 flagship and the LG G2 did not touch down until much later in the year and right around the time that the iPhone 5s was stealing all of the headlines.

The LG G2 replaced the LG Optimus G as the company’s flagship offering and it did so with numerous upgrades on board including a 13MP camera with OIS, a large Full HD display, quad-core processor, some of the best battery life in the business, and a design that featured a volume rocker and power button on the back of the device. The device quickly became one of the top devices on the market.

LG’s G2 is set to be replaced later on this month but that doesn’t mean that the device is going to ride off into the sunset. Rather, it will probably see a price cut and be marketed as a cheap, high-end smartphone to those that don’t need the latest specs.

While we consider it to be a very solid buy, there are some devices that consumers must consider before buying the LG G2, a device that still isn’t even a year old.

Keep in mind, our list may differ from yours but these are the devices that Gotta Be Mobile editors have selected for recognition this month. We feel like they deliver the best, all-around package at the moment. This list will change from month to month as rumored devices get closer to announcement and announced devices get released.

Maybe the first smartphone that prospective LG G2 buyers need to check out is the Samsung Galaxy S5, a device that figures to be one of the LG G3's biggest rivals and a device that we consider to be one of the top Android smartphones on the market.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 may not be a huge leap from the Samsung Galaxy S4 but there are certainly plenty of things to like. It offers one of the best smartphone displays on planet earth, it comes with a processor that delivers solid performance, it features an upgraded camera, and it ditches the glossy plastic back for a perforated matte plastic design that is dust and water resistant.

Best of all, its price has already been discounted at retailers like Amazon. It may not be as cheap as the LG G2 but for some extra cash, consumers will be getting a device that comes with a solid hardware experience and software that should get updated for two years down the road.

It's a device that we think that LG G2 buyers need to cross off their list before settling.
