Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat Updates Remain MIA

Published

on

New Android software update schedules from a pair of carriers unfortunately don’t list the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update and one updated schedule shows an expected delay with the timing of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update release.

Many weeks ago, Samsung USA and Samsung Poland confirmed that they would be rolling out the Galaxy S3 LTE and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates. That was weeks ago. Since then, information about the two updates has remained relatively scarce as Samsung and its carrier partners work behind the scenes on their upgrades to Android 4.4 KitKat.

We’ve been trying to piece together the puzzle for Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 owners all over the world in an attempt to bring clarity to the situation. We’ve tracked down Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat confirmations for Rogers in Canada, SFR in France, Vodafone and Optus in Australia, Sprint in the United States, and Vodafone Spain.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat roll out started in late April but none of those carriers have pushed out an update and from the looks of things, the majority of Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates probably won’t push out until June or perhaps, much later than that.

French carrier SFR released its new Android update schedule today and it, as expected, lists the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update as coming in June. Originally, the carrier had said that the update would be coming in May though with time winding down, we suspected that the update, like several other Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 updates, would get pushed back.

Telstra, an Australian carrier, released its updated schedule today and surprisingly, the carrier left the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update off its schedule. We strongly believe that all variants of the Galaxy Note 2 will get Android 4.4 KitKat so it may just be that Telstra is going to lag behind the curve.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update information, however, has been a little more difficult to obtain. The situation has been a flashpoint for months now and Samsung UK recently confirmed some terrible news for those that are utilizing the GT-i9300 international version of the Galaxy S3.

Samsung UK recently confirmed that the 1GB version of the Galaxy S3 will not be getting Android 4.4 KitKat. Here is what the company had to say about the cancellation:

“In order to facilitate an effective upgrade on the Google platform, various hardware performances such as the memory (RAM, ROM, etc.), multi-tasking capabilities, and display must meet certain technical expectations. The Galaxy S3 and S3 mini 3G versions come equipped with 1GB RAM, which does not allow them to effectively support the platform upgrade. As a result of the Galaxy S3 and S3 mini 3G versions’ hardware limitation, they cannot effectively support the platform upgrade while continuing to provide the best consumer experience. Samsung has decided not to roll-out the KitKat upgrade to Galaxy S3 and S3 mini 3G versions, and the KitKat upgrade will be available to the Galaxy S3 LTE version as the device’s 2GB RAM is enough to support the platform upgrade.”

So, the company will be pushing the upgrade to the Galaxy S3 LTE. Unfortunately, it’s still not clear when the majority of these updates will be landing. Rumors suggest that the Galaxy S3 LTE push will begin in May but we still haven’t seen anything roll out. We also haven’t seen carriers like SFR, Telstra, or any other operators confirm upcoming releases for their 4G models.

This is a sign that Galaxy S3 owners could be in for a long wait. It also could mean that rumors of a jump to Android 4.4.3 KitKat instead of Android 4.4.2 KitKat could be true in some cases.

Android 4.4.3 KitKat update rumors have been flying around for months. The Android 4.4.3 KitKat is expected to alleviate Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems and it’s expected to deploy to Google’s arsenal of Nexus-branded smartphones and tablets. Rumors also suggest that it will be coming to Samsung’s devices in the future as well.

SamMobile recently claimed that Samsung is currently testing the Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update. It, like Android Geeks, also claims that Samsung is thinking about pushing Android 4.4.3 KitKat instead of Android 4.4.2. It’s not clear which devices might be under consideration though Android Geeks suggests that both the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 could get Android 4.4.3.

While nothing is confirmed, it could explain why we haven’t seen a massive Galaxy Note 2 or Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update push during the month of May. The Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 update is currently limited to three variants while the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is only available on Sprint.

Whatever the case may be, Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades remain missing in action and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades continue to get pushed back. Owners simply must remain patient and wait for roll out details to emerge.

Impatient Galaxy S3 owners can look to take the unofficial upgrade route. Developers have ported the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 update to the Galaxy S3 and from the look of things, it’s working pretty well.

I woke up this morning with the message that 4.4 was ready to install. I let it start, it made it about half-way and errored. After reboot there was no signs at all that anything changed and there’s no mention of it in System Update.

    I’m in the U.S. BTW

My S3 had the update this morning as well but I didnt have any trouble installing it. First thing I noticed was the battery indicator is grey instead of green now. A few other minor things, seems to be working well. All my usual apps work so I’m happy with it. I’m on Sprint in USA

Be paid weekly and earn like a boss! I just bought a great Mazda MX-5 from having earned $7126 this past 4 weeks and $10k past-month. Without any doubt this is the easiest and most comfortable job I’ve ever had. I began this 6 months ago and right away was bringing in more than $83 per/h. Here’s what I’ve been doing https://is.gd/Wiw8ly

U.S. Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE installing the KitKat 4.4.3 update right this moment! It just finished! Quick! I came in and picked up my phone and it informed me a system update was ready to install. I’m eager to see the enhanced features and touch with KitKat. I’m not concerned about a gray full battery indicator instead of a green one. I’m on Sprint btw.
