Android 4.4.3 Kitkat Update: 5 Most Important Things to Know Right Now

Published

on

The Android 4.4.3 KitKat update release remains out of reach despite numerous leaks including some from Motorola and Google themselves. With Android users growing impatient with the lack of official details, we want to take a quick look at the most important things Nexus users and owners of other Android devices need to know right now about Android 4.4.3 KitKat, its features and its release.

Since late March, the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update has been a fixture in the Android update rumor mill thanks to an avalanche of leaks that have teased owners of Google’s Nexus smartphones and tablets and owners of non-Nexus devices like the Samsung Galaxy S5. Android 4.4.3 KitKat rumors have touched on everything from the release date to its features to the devices that will be getting the Android 4.4.2 KitKat successor. Problem is, Google has yet to confirm anything.

The Android 4.4.3 KitKat update is the elephant in the room and it has been for several weeks now. But for whatever reason, the company remains mum when it comes to specifics. After several weeks of rumors, some rumors have firmed up while other Android 4.4.3 KitKat update details remain out of reach.

Many Android users have kept up with the Android 4.4.3 KitKat leaks, others may be tuning in for the first time. Whatever the case may be, here, we take a look at what we think are the five most important things to know, right now, about Google’s Android 4.4.3 KitKat update.

All Signs Point to an Android 4.4.3 KitKat Update

Google still hasn’t confirmed anything for Nexus owners or owners of other Android devices and that means that the future is wide open. With Google I/O coming up and a rumored Android 4.5 update supposedly coming in July, folks have rightfully begun to wonder about the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update’s existence. Google’s plans remain unknown but all signs do point to an upcoming Android 4.4.3 KitKat release.

Maybe the biggest sign that we’ve seen thus far is one from Motorola. The company, which recently announced the Moto E, released a promotional video tied to the device’s launch. The video, which can be seen below, suggested that the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update is real and that it’s the current version of Android.

If that’s not a sign that something is common, a sign that something is close, then we don’t know what is. We’ve also seen a number of credible leaks including several from SamMobile and LLabTooFeR point to the arrival of Android 4.4.3. We’ve also seen it pop up in several benchmarks for upcoming devices.

So at this point, unless something drastic took place behind the scenes, we expect Android 4.4.3 KitKat to be the next Android update. It’s entirely possible that Google decided or will decide to wrap the fixes into the next major Android update, rumored to be Android 4.5, but we remain skeptical given the rumors.

Android 4.4.3 KitKat Release Date MIA

The Android 4.4.3 KitKat release date remains missing in action and rumors up until this moment haven’t been able to pinpoint anything concrete. We saw Android Geeks suggest a release on May 23rd though the site quickly backtracked and now says that the update may be facing yet another delay.

We say another delay because it was clear that the update was supposed to have started rolling out back in April. Sprint announced the arrival and we also saw a Google application reference the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update. Sprint said that there was a problem with the update and that the problem forced the roll out to be postponed.

We’ve seen LlabTooFeR suggest a May window for the start of the roll out and at this point, that’s really all we have to go on. There is plenty of time left in the month but it could be that the update stretches into June, even if the roll out starts in May. Google’s updates typically roll out over the course of a week or so.

Here Are the Devices That Will Supposedly Get Android 4.4.3 KitKat

Here is a list of the devices that will supposedly be getting the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update. None of these updates have been confirmed but at this point, most of them appear likely. Here’s what we got so far:

  • Nexus 4
  • Nexus 10
  • Nexus 5
  • Nexus 7
  • Google Play Edition Devices
  • Moto X
  • HTC One M7
  • HTC One M8
  • Samsung Galaxy S5
  • Samsung Galaxy S4
  • Samsung Galaxy S3
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 3
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 2
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo
  • Samsung Galaxy Grand 2
  • Samsung Galaxy Mega

Keep in mind, non-Nexus devices typically get Android updates long after Nexus branded smartphones and tablets. So while Android 4.4.3 KitKat might land for the devices listed here, release dates are going to vary and they’ll probably be dramatically different.

For instance, while Android 4.4.2 KitKat hit the Nexus 4 in November, the Galaxy S4 didn’t get it until February.

Android 4.4.3 KitKat Features Haven’t Changed

Throughout all of this, the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update’s changelog hasn’t changed. We haven’t heard about any big additions and we haven’t heard anything about the update morphing into anything other than a massive bug fixer aimed at solving a lot of the problems caused by Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

The best evidence of this is the change log that emerged in Google’s AOSP a few weeks ago. The Android 4.4.3 KitKat change log listed there contained many of the fixes that Google was rumored to be including inside the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update and at this point, those fixes should be the ones that Android owners are expecting to emerge down the road.

Google Doesn’t Like to Confirm Details Early

This is maybe the most important thing that Android users need to know. Google typically doesn’t not confirm details ahead of time. The Android 4.4 and Android 4.4.2 KitKat releases were confirmed shortly before their roll outs. This is standard and par for the course.

What this means is that Android users will likely have to rely on rumors and leaks up until the day of the roll out because Google probably will not set a date for the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update.

The Android 4.4.3 KitKat rumor train has slowed down immensely in the last few days so it could be that we’re finally close. Owners will just have to wait and see.

Be patient.

I purchased Nexus 5 because it comes with a guarantee of being upgraded to new versions of Android before other devices. I am eagerly waiting for the release of Android 4.4.3 KitKat for my Nexus 5. I am facing the problem of quick battery drainage from last 3 successive months due to continuous use of background camera apps. To overcome this issue I recently purchased a qi car charger for it to keep it fully charged while driving on expressway and highway. They must launch this update soon.
