Android 4.4.3 KitKat Update Confirmed by Samsung Ahead of Release

The heavily rumored Android 4.4.3 KitKat update still hasn’t been released by Google and leaks continue to tease those who are desperate to solve Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems. Today, the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update has been confirmed once again though this time, instead of Google or Motorola, it’s Samsung that’s talking about the new KitKat update.

For weeks, Android 4.4.3 KitKat rumors and leaks have surfaced, teasing owners of Google’s Nexus 7, Nexus 5, Nexus 10, and Nexus 4. Owners of these devices have been dealing with Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems for months and while Google has promised fixes for many of the issues, it still hasn’t released the update. Android 4.4.3 KitKat release rumors point to an arrival in May or June but they have not been able to pinpoint an exact date.

Despite this, we’re continuing to see Android 4.4.3 KitKat details emerge from the shadows and today, it’s Samsung that has surfaced the rumored Android 4.4 KitKat update.

Already, we’ve seen the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update confirmed four times. First, back in mid-April, Sprint confirmed a Nexus 5 Android 4.4.3 KitKat release. The carrier was forced to postpone the roll out for unspecified reasons and the update still has not made its triumphant return.

Motorola recently confirmed the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update in a teaser video for its new Moto E smartphone. The Android 4.4.3 KitKat reference can be seen in the small print at the 38 second mark of the video below. The reference does not confirm any details other than the fact that the update is the “current” version of Android.

We’ve also seen Google confirm Android 4.4.3 KitKat not once, but twice. The first reference came in an update to its Edu Device Setup application on the Google Play Store. The update noted that it would be coming with the following enhancements for Android users:

  • Support for new Google Spreadsheets
  • Support for Android 4.4.3 and non-Nexus Tablets
  • Minor UI updates and bug fixes

More recently, we saw the company leak the Android 4.4.3 KitKat change log into the Android Open Source Project, also known as AOSP. Google quickly pulled the change log down but not before its features were revealed to the world.

Samsung is not the first company to confirm Android 4.4.3 KitKat but it’s the latest. SammyToday spotted an Android 4.4.3 KitKat reference lurking on Samsung’s website. The references appear in a portion of the site that is meant to help developers troubleshoot ConsumerIrManager in Android. They suggest that Android 4.4.3 KitKat is the latest version of Android.

Unfortunately, the references don’t tell us anything about the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update or its release date. It does however point to an upcoming release from Samsung.

Android 4.4.3 KitKat rumors have pointed to a release for a number of devices including Google’s Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, Nexus 5, and its Google Play smartphones and tablets. We’ve also seen rumors point to an arrival for the Moto X, HTC One M7 and HTC One M8.

Rumors also suggest that Samsung is testing the Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update right now behind the scenes and that the update will be touching down for the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note 3 Neo, Galaxy Grand 2, and Galaxy Mega as well. This remains unconfirmed.

Whispers also assert that Samsung could look to skip Android 4.4.2 KitKat and move straight to Android 4.4.3 KitKat with some of these devices. The Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates are moving extremely slow at the moment so it’s possible that these two devices could potentially get the bump.

For now, Samsung owners and owners of all Android devices must sit and wait while Google works to get the next KitKat update ready for public consumption. At this point, despite the confirmations, a Android 4.4.3 release date remains up in the air.
