The iPhone 5s is one of the best smartphones in 2014, even after seven months on store shelves thanks to a great camera, sharp display, speedy iOS 7 operating system and a plethora of apps. Although a growing number of users are waiting for the iPhone 6 release date this fall, there are still plenty of reasons to buy the iPhone 5s in May 2014.

For the past several weeks iPhone 5s deals dropped the price of the iPhone 5s to $99 and promises at least $100 when you trade in any old smartphone that still turns on, is free of water damage and does not have a cracked screen. If the old smartphone is worth more than $100 you’ll get that amount in a Best Buy gift card.

Trade in deals aren’t always great, but with the 2014 Best Buy Memorial weekend sales you’ll get at least $100 for an old Android phone that might not even go for $50 online. It’s also a good deal for iPhone 4 owners looking for a cheap iPhone, since many online trade in locations are offering less than $100 for the iPhone 4.

If you are thinking of trading in for a free iPhone 5s, use the Best Buy trade in checker to see what your old smartphone is worth. If the value is below $100 you can still round up to $100 since that is guaranteed. If it is above $100 you should also check sites like NextWorth and Gazelle to see what they are offering. In our quick comparison of an AT&T 8GB iPhone 4s in perfect condition Best Buy beats Gazelle by $11, which is a good deal and the Verizon 8GB iPhone 4s in perfect condition beats Gazelle by $35.

For these devices that are over $100, the extra cash can go towards a Best Buy gift card that you can use on taxes, fees or accessories. These prices are before the $100 trade in credit that drops the iPhone 5s to free on Verizon and Sprint with a two-year contract and makes a 32GB iPhone 5s just $99 on those carriers.

Here are the iPhone 5s deals that are part of the Best Buy Memorial Weekend sales.

  • iPhone 5s 16GB – $99.99 ($100 savings) on Sprint and Verizon Wireless
  • iPhone 5s 16GB  – $199.99 on AT&T.
  • iPhone 5s 32GB – $199.99 ($100 savings) on Sprint and Verizon Wireless
  • iPhone 5s 64GB – $299.99 ($100 savings) on Sprint and Verizon Wireless

If you prefer a more colorful iPhone 5c, There are several deals and you can still get the $100 guaranteed trade in value.

  • White iPhone 5c 16GB – $1 on AT&T
  • iPhone 5c 16GB – $49.99 ($50 savings) on Sprint and Verizon Wireless
  • iPhone 5c 16GB – $99.99 on AT&T

To take advantage of this deal you will need to be eligible for an upgrade and sign a new two-year contract with AT&T, Sprint or Verizon. For customers that want to use Sprint Easy Pay or Verizon Edge the guaranteed trade in still applies but users must make monthly payments and pay sales tax up front on the device.

Best Buy also offers a number of Samsung Galaxy S5 deals this weekend for users that want a new Android phone instead.

The iPhone 6 is rumored to arrive this fall with a larger display, a new design and a potentially better camera. The iPhone 5s features a 4-inch display, design like the iPhone 5 and an 8MP camera.

Not true. Just went to best buy and they will only give me $60 for my iphone 4 and $20 for my 3GS. They said there is fine print in the ad that says “trade in value may vary”. A minimum of $100 is not guaranteed for any old smartphone. Escalated it to the store GM and he confirmed.

Best Buy is a ripoff. Always has been. Their “best buys” are always full of fine print, catches, exclusions, and gimmicks. They’ve operated like this for decades. They’ll sell something cheap and get it back from u in an extended warranty, or set up fees, etc. Or they upsell you. Don’t believe anything they say.
