Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition

Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition

The Sony Z Ultra is a waterproof smartphone that runs stock Android, offers a huge display and can go up to 4.9 feet under water for up to 30 minutes.

We expect a water resistant Galaxy Note 4 in late 2014, but if you need a big screen and crave stock Android like on a Nexus 5, this is the phone you want to check out.

The Xperia Z Ultra includes a 6.4-inch 1080P HD display and features a 8MP camera on the back and a 2MP camera on the front. The phone includes 16GB of storage and a Micro SD card slot.

This is the Google Play Edition so users must buy it unlocked for $450 and it works on T-Mobile and AT&T.

Water proof phones are cool and all but when you know your about to be around water a zip lock bag will do a better job. Personally I’m getting the lg g3! That’s about as future proof as you can get in cell phones right now.

I would like to share my experience of a waterproof smartphone…Samsung XCover2…for two times in water and for two times broken…the problem is the usb connection that can not guarantee the impermeabilty due to the fact that you have to open it often to charge the smartphone…and now I understand why many IP67 gps whatches use a different system to recharge. I would like to find a real waterproof smartphone…can anyone help me?

Most of the Sony phones have the option of a magnetic charging cable on the side which doesn’t reduce the water resistance. The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a ~$30 official accessory which enables wireless charging so you wouldn’t have to open up a port.

I used a lifeproof case for my iPhone 5c; it got rain on it, now the touch screen doesn’t work. Useless.
