At the tail end of last year, we started to hear rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S4’s successor, a device that many people dubbed the Samsung Galaxy S5. Rumors in 2013 hinted at a number of new features but it wasn’t until 2014 rolled around that we started to hear a lot more about the Galaxy S5.

In the beginning of the year, the Samsung Galaxy S5 was one of the top rumored devices thanks to its stature and thanks to the volume of rumors that emerged in the weeks before its arrival. In fact, Galaxy S5 rumors were prevalent right up until the Galaxy S5’s launch event in late February at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

At MWC 2014, Samsung took the stage at its Unpacked event and announced a brand new Galaxy S smartphone dubbed Galaxy S5. The device, as rumors suggested, arrived with a number of impressive additions including a new design, upgraded camera, improved screen, new TouchWiz software, and more.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 that arrived in February, and hit shelves in April, is a fine smartphone. It does not come with a metal design or QHD dispaly but we and many others still consider it to be one of the best smartphone options available to consumers during the month of June. It’s a device that we think should reside near the top of most, if not all, smartphone shopping lists.
