The Android 4.4.4 KitKat release continues as three new Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates have started rolling out to three extremely popular Android smartphones from Motorola.

Last month, Google rolled out two brand new Android updates in the forms of Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Android 4.4.3 KitKat, which rolled out early in the month, deployed to a number of devices including the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, several Google Play Edition devices and several Motorola devices including the Moto X, Moto E, and Moto G in the United States.

Later in the month, Android 4.4.4 KitKat arrived to replace Android 4.4.3 KitKat delivering security fixes to Nexus users and bringing fixes for Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems to those that hadn’t yet received Android 4.4.3 KitKat. The Android 4.4.4 KitKat roll out is still very active and it looks like three new Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates have started to roll out in a very specific region of the world.

Motorola India recently announced that it has now started rolling out the Moto G Android 4.4.4 KitKat update, the Moto E Android 4.4.4 KitKat update and the Moto X Android 4.4.4 KitKat update. The updates, which are rolling out in waves, have been pushing out since July 4th and deliver all of the features of Android 4.4.3 KitKat in addition to an extra layer of security. In other words, this is the Android 4.4.2 KitKat bug fixer that Moto G, Moto E and Moto X owners in India have been waiting for.

Moto X, Moto G and Moto E owners in the region will want to remain patient as Motorola says that the roll outs will be gradual but that all handsets will receive the bump up to Android 4.4.4 KitKat in the near future.

Moto X, Moto G and Moto E variants in the United States remain stuck on Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Motorola hasn’t announced when the Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrade might hit this trio of devices but given that the software is now hitting devices in another major market, it’s possible that we could see the announcement, and the roll outs, come quickly.

After all, the United States’ Moto X variants are still listed with updates “Coming Soon” and it’s clear that Motorola is working hard to deliver Android 4.4.4 KitKat to its customers.

In late June, after the arrival of Android 4.4.4 KitKat, Motorola confirmed that the arrival of Android 4.4.4 KitKat pushed back updates for its Droid MAXX, Droid Ultra and Droid Mini. Here is what Motorola’s David Schuster said at the time:

Sorry for the delay in giving an update on the 4.4.3 upgrades but I had to wait unit Google announced KitKat 4.4.4 today (I am bound by a NDA). A significant security vulnerability was discovered by OpenSSL (https://www.openssl.org/news/secadv_20140605.txt) and is fixed in KitKat 4.4.4. We had to wait until KitKat 4.4.4 became available. Consequently, all of our 4.4.3 upgrades that were in carrier labs worldwide (including the 2013 Droid’s) had to be respun, tested and resubmitted again. This was a significant unplanned effort that we had to undertake. We should be re-entering labs next week and hopefully getting TA (technical approval) in 3 to 5 weeks later depending on the carrier.

Motorola isn’t the only one working on Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrades. It’s clear that HTC is planning to push out Android 4.4.4 KitKat to its HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 with release dates rumored for July or August. Specific dates haven’t been set in stone and the company itself still hasn’t confirmed what will be on board the two updates when they arrive.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat arrived just as Google announced a brand new Android L update. Android L is expected to replace Android 4.4 KitKat down the road and it’s an update that delivers some massive changes to Android users. While a release date remains unconfirmed, Android L rumors put the update somewhere in the last three months of the year alongside a new Nexus 8 tablet.

It’s not clear if the Moto X, Moto G, Moto E or any other Motorola devices will get the bump up to Android L.
