New Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update Release Confirmed

With Google’s Android 4.4.3 KitKat update now in the rear view, Android users are focused in on the company’s brand new Android 4.4 KitKat update, Android 4.4.4 KitKat. And while the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update release is only a few short weeks old, we’re starting to see a number of release details emerge this week as companies work to push it, and its fixes, out to various devices.

Last month, Google finally rolled out its rumored Android 4.4.3 KitKat update, an update that had been rumored since March, and an update that fixed a number of Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems. The update emerged first for Nexus smartphones and tablets including the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 and it also was pushed out for Google Play Edition devices and phones like the Moto X, Moto E and Moto G.

Just a few short days after getting the Android 4.4.3 KitKat roll out going, Google rolled out another Android 4.4 KitKat update, Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Android 4.4.4 KitKat is a small update for Android 4.4.3 users, it brings security fixes, but it represents a massive bug fix update for those that did not receive Android 4.4.3 KitKat. That’s what makes it important.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat has landed for a number of different devices in recent days, most recently the Moto X, Moto E and Moto G in India, and today, a carrier announced plans to roll out an Android 4.4.4 KitKat update to a device on its network.

French carrier SFR, a carrier that’s well known for delivering release dates and update information well in advance, says that it plans to push out a Moto G Android 4.4.4 KitKat update to its version of the device on July 16th. The update will bring a number of improvements including a fix for an OpenSSL security issue, Motorola Alert integration and more.

Keep in mind, release dates are subject to change so while SFR does plan on rolling it out on July 16th, there is always a chance it could roll out earlier or get pushed back due to unforeseen issues.

This is good news for owners of Moto G variants on carriers around the world though it doesn’t confirm imminent roll outs. Verizon, for instance, still hasn’t confirmed its Moto G Android 4.4.4 KitKat update. Still, the fact that SFR is done with testing bodes well for users on Verizon and for Moto G users elsewhere in the world.

Moto X, Moto G and Moto E variants in the United States remain stuck on Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Motorola hasn’t announced when the Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrade might hit the trio but given that the software is landing with authority, it’s possible that we could see the announcement, and the roll outs, come in the near future.

Motorola has also confirmed Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates for its Droid MAXX, Droid Ultra and Droid Mini though it still hasn’t tagged them with specific Android 4.4.4 KitKat release dates.

Of course, Motorola isn’t the only company working on Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrades. It’s clear that HTC is planning to push out Android 4.4.4 KitKat to its HTC One M8 and HTC One M7. Release dates are rumored for July or August.

Rumors in the buildup to the Android 4.4.3 KitKat release suggested that Samsung was working on Android 4.4.3 KitKat updates behind the scenes. Rumors pointed to a Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.3 KitKat release in June and a Galaxy S4 LTE-A Android 4.4.3 KitKat release in July. Neither update has emerged and it’s possible that Samsung was forced to go back to the drawing board after the arrival of Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

Google’s Android 4.4.4 KitKat emerged just as it announced a brand new Android L update. Android L is expected to replace Android 4.4 KitKat down the road with some massive changes on board. While a release date remains unconfirmed, Android L rumors put the update somewhere in the last three months of the year alongside a new Nexus 8 tablet.

Yeah its pretty sad when I constantly buy Samsung’s current flagships (currently the s5) and have to wait for updates while as of right the the galaxy s3 is running 4.4.4. I think I’m finally done with Samsung. How is it that HTC and Motorola are pushing out these updates before Samsung? They should be embarrassed.

      Bill…..ummm….what?

No phone outside of Nexus and GP devices are on 4.4.4. The only way an S3 can be on 4.4.4 is with a custom rom.

And Motorola’s updates are so fast now because they basically ditched blur and run a very close to stock experience. While HTC and Samungs updates are much slower because they have Touchwiz and Sense skinned over Android so there is ALOT more to get working and fix the bugs for thus it takes alot more time.

My sprint S3 is also up to 4.4.2.

Would really like to know which carrier already has the S3 on 4.4.4 when the S5 doesn’t even have it yet. I call bs on that claim.

Sorry that was a typo. I meant will be running 4.4.4, which they will. Customers don’t want to hear reasons and excuses as to why they are not or other companys receive updates. When your arguably the top smartphone company in the world there is no excuse for it. The reason we don’t receive these updates is because they build so many smartphones so quickly. Its a tactic to get you to upgrade. Giving an older phone like the s3 the update doesn’t matter because if you were going to upgrade it you would have already.

Motorola updates quicker because they were bought by google. Google also claims that they have an 18 month update cycle on all smartphones, so even users with an s4 will still get the update, just a matter of time. I bought an SV to keep my update cycle fresh, but verizon always and will always take their time with updates. If you want something that constantly updates, get a nexus device such as a tablet. They get updates immediately from google as soon as they are released

Yes of course google phones receive the updates first and they should. But that isn’t the big issue here. The issue I have and most people that spend a pretty penny to upgrade there Samsung devices shouldn’t have to wait for updates while older models receive them Plain and simple. There is no way, any way you want to spin it that the galaxy s3 should be receiving the latest update before the galaxy 5. That’s unacceptable. What do you think would happen if apple decided to give the iPhone 3 updates before the iPhone 5? It would never happen. The fact of the matter is they are about to push the galaxy note 4 through the door and they don’t want anything to come between them and the huge profit they will make. If holding updates back sells them a million more note 4s than you better believe they will do it.
