iPhone Keyboard Readying for Fall iOS 8 Release

Published

on

The iOS 8 release this fall is quick approaching and a popular third-party keyboard company is working hard to deliver a new iOS 8 keyboard with support for 40 languages in time for a fall iOS 8 release date.

Apple announced iOS 8 at WWDC 2014 in June, including support for third-party keyboards. This is a major change for the iPhone, which previously only allowed the main iPhone keyboard unless an app included an alternate.

One of the biggest iOS 8 vs iOS 7 changes is support for third-party keyboards that can work across the entire iPhone. This is in addition to a major upgrade for the default iOS 8 keyboard.

Up until the iOS 8 release date the only way to use a third-party keyboard on the iPhone is to jailbreak the iPhone and install an iOS 7 Cydia tweak that replaces the main keyboard. Although there is an iOS 7.1.2 jailbreak this is not an option for every user.

This iOS 8 keyboard should arrive in time for the fall iOS 8 release date.

Android smartphones offer a lot of choice in terms of keyboards, with Fleksy, SwiftKey and many others offering alternate methods of typing and swiping than the stock keyboard. After releasing standalone apps on the iPhone during the last year, these companies are ready to deliver an iOS 8 keyboard this fall.

Fleksy is one of the companies working hard to ready an iOS 8 keyboard for the fall iOS 8 release date. Although Apple did not name a specific date, it did confirm that the iOS 8 release is set for the fall. Fleksy and other app developers are eager to deliver an iOS 8 keyboard as soon as the release arrives to get in on the initial hype and search for iPhone keyboards. Once an iOS 8 user selects a third-party keyboard they may stick with it for the long haul, which puts the pressure on.

A new report from 9to5Mac shares progress on the iOS 8 keyboard from Fleksy, which will support 40 languages this fall. Fleksy announced a new Android beta of the keyboard and added multiple languages to this release.

For developers and other users running iOS 8 ahead of the fall release there will be a iOS 8 keyboard beta from Fleksy. Users can sign up for the iOS 8 keyboard beta and install the iOS 8 beta on their device ahead of the public iOS 8 release date. There is no confirmation of when the Fleksy iOS 8 keyboard beta will start up.

Fleksy already offers an iPhone app as a free download for iOS 7 users. This iPhone keyboard app allows users to try Fleksy, and to type faster, but only inside this one app. Users can copy their text and then paste it into another app, but this is not as nice as a iOS 8 keyboard will be able to offer this fall.

Apple includes a lot of new features for the iOS 8 release date.

iOS 8 is a free update scheduled for a fall iOS 8 release date. The update will arrive for the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s as well as many iPad models. The iPhone 4 will not get an iOS 8 update, leaving those owners without access to iOS 8 keyboards and other new features.

Although there is no specific iOS 8 release date, Apple will likely offer an iOS 8 download two days ahead of an iPhone 6 release date. Current rumors suggest Apple will sell the iPhone 6 on September 19th, which hints at a iOS 8 release date on September 17th. Typically this takes place early in the morning Pacific at about 10AM.

Android users have been doing this for years. All Apple is doing is copying Android.
