How to Amplify Your iPhone Speaker

While there are a ton of Bluetooth speakers to choose from that can boost your iPhone’s audio volume and quality, sometimes you just need a quick and dirty method for making your iPhone’s speaker louder. Here are some tricks that you can use.

Let’s be real: Bluetooth speakers cost money, and you don’t have $50 to spend on even a decent Bluetooth speaker because you blew all of your savings on other iPhone accessories, as well as apps and games in the iTunes App Store. So where does that leave you?

Luckily, there are ways to amplify the volume of your iPhone’s speaker using items that you probably already have lying around your house.

The iPhone’s speaker only gets so loud, or at least Apple only lets it get so loud. Sometimes you want to listen to music while you’re in the shower or cooking dinner, but you might not be able to hear the music over the running water or the blender, even if you have the volume all the way up.

Fortunately for you, there are several methods that you can use to raise the volume of your iPhone speaker without having to buy a Bluetooth speaker.

Use a Glass

Everyone has a drinking glass in their house (or at least you should). You might think that these contraptions are just made for consuming your favorite beverage, but they can also be used to boost the volume of your iPhone’s speaker.

Simply placing your iPhone inside of a drinking glass can amplify the volume tremendously. Just be sure that the bottom of the iPhone is inserted first.

The music coming out of the iPhone’s speaker will bounce off of the bottom of the drinking glass and jump out from the wider opening at the top of the glass, creating a megaphone effect of sorts. This will also muffle the music a bit, getting rid of the naturally high treble from the iPhone’s speaker and adding a bit of “virtual bass” if you will. Try it for yourself if you don’t believe us — it only takes a few seconds to set it up.

Use the Bathroom Sink

Similar to using a drinking glass as a megaphone of sorts, placing your iPhone in your bathroom sink can also amplify the volume of your iPhone’s speaker.

This is a little easier and quicker to do than the drinking glass trick, as you don’t need to go searching for a glass or anything. Plus, the echo-y nature of bathrooms alone can amplify the volume even more. Granted, the sound quality itself won’t get any better, since it’s the same speaker that’s outputting the music, but the volume should be much louder.

Also, while many users may see this as an obvious statement, it needs to be said anyway: only put your iPhone in a dry sink and not when it’s wet or as water in it. Water and electronics don’t mix, and you’ll quickly learn that the hard way if you do decide to put your iPhone in a wet sink.

Use a Pringles Can

If you’re feeling a bit crafty and in the mood to make something, perhaps turning a regular Pringles can into an iPhone speaker booster is right up your alley.

The project comes from Mashable, and it requires that you have an empty Pringles can, two big binder clips, toilet paper, tape, and scissors.

All you have to do is cut a slit towards the bottom of the Pringles can where your iPhone will slide into. Then take the binder clips to the sides of the Pringles can to keep it from rolling away. If you’re wondering about the toilet paper, you simply stuff it loosely and evenly throughout the inside of the Pringles can. This is meant to muffle the “tinny” echo that you’ll inevitably get when you play music through the Pringles can, so the toilet paper is an essential component to the project.

After it’s all put together, you can spray paint it to give it an even look and have it blend in with the decor in your house, or just leave it as is to make it look truly DIY.
