Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Update: Long Waits Emerge

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update release is far from over as new Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat details reveal long waits for owners of two specific versions of the popular smartphone.

In February, Samsung started rolling out the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update. The update, which hit the United States in force, has rolled out to tons of Galaxy S4 owners over last six months as Samsung and its carrier partners have worked to outfit the device with all of the features that Android 4.4.2 KitKat has to offer.

While the company has done an admirable job under difficult circumstances, there are tons of different Galaxy S4 variants in tons of different regions around the world, there is still work to be done. Many Galaxy S4 variants are still sitting on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Fortunately, some carriers keep their customers in the loop as far as Android updates go. Unfortunately, those same carriers still don’t have a hold on specific Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update release dates.

Australian carrier Optus today released a brand new update to its Android upgrade schedule and sadly, it looks like Samsung needs more time to developer the carrier’s two Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades. While the company was hopeful that it would receive the updates in for testing many weeks ago, it looks like it’s taking a lot longer than expected.

The carrier says that it now anticipates that it will receive the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update sometime in mid-to-late August. At that point, the carrier will begin testing, a process that could take days or perhaps weeks to complete. In other words, unless something changes between now and August, it could be a month or so before Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 4G users on Optus receive their Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades.

Making matters worse is that it’s not even clear what version of Android 4.4 KitKat they’ll see. Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat are the current versions of Android 4.4 KitKat though Samsung has not confirmed either upgrade. Instead, the company has been content with Android 4.4.2 KitKat, a buggier, older version of Android 4.4.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 update is now available.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 update is now available for some.

Optus isn’t the only carrier in this boat. Fellow Australian carrier Vodafone has yet to receive the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update from Samsung and Telstra, another Aussie provider, hasn’t provided any details regarding its Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 upgrade. Telstra dealt with serious Android 4.3 Jelly Bean issues so it could be awhile before we see an Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade emerge.

In the United States, MetroPCS and C Spire Wireless still haven’t pushed out Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrades to their versions of the Galaxy S4. It’s still not clear when or if these two service providers will push out their Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades.

As we push deeper into the year, we get closer to the inevitable release of Google’s new Android L update, an update that is currently available to Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 users in the form of a beta upgrade. Unlike Android 4.4 KitKat, Android L represents a major update to the Android operating system thanks to design tweaks and an assortment of new features.

Android L on Android 4.4.4

Android L is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter, perhaps alongside the Nexus 8 and Nexus 6, though we still haven’t heard a peep out of Samsung or its carrier partners.

While companies like HTC have confirmed Android L upgrades for flagship smartphones, Samsung still isn’t talking about anything other than Android 4.4.2 KitKat. And while there is a very good chance that Samsung will push out Android L updates for its latest devices, the company likely won’t talk Android L until the update is released by Google at some point down the road.

For now, Samsung users will simply need to focus in on Android 4.4 KitKat and more specifically, on Android 4.4.2.

You’re correct Ger! Let’s be careful with so many thieves trying to hunt with some people. Money is not easy to get, you have to work hard to get some money for your living. Open your eyes, don’t trust this king of pages. Good luck!!!

Let’s leave Samsung, they don’t respect their customers. When it comes to updates, they’re really very slow. I’ve had the same experience that Gary Cooper explains, my T Mobile S4 is a piece of crap after it was updated to kitkat 4.4.2, I hate the phone and I’m willing to update it to 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 in order to see if it improves. I wish I could downgrade it to the oldest android version it had when I bought it. We have to move to Motorola, Nexus, HTC or whatever other phones, but Samsung SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
