OnePlus OneWatch Leaks as Moto 360 Release Nears

A new name in the smartphone space has been making waves lately, called OnePlus, and if the latest leak revealed today are accurate they could have an impressive smartwatch coming soon to rival the Moto 360.

When the Moto 360 smartwatch running Google’s new Android Wear operating system was revealed it was immediately the most popular smartwatch because of the design. Offering a fancy typical (and round) watch experience that also runs Google’s Android-based mobile operating system designed for wearable gadgets.

At this time we can’t be certain this newly leaked OnePlus OneWatch runs Android, or Android Wear, but given their only other releases are Android devices, it makes perfect sense. Today an array of schetches and even screenshots from their official website have been leaked, although we’ve seen these before.

Google announced Android Wear in March, and it officially arrived on two watches back in June. The LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live. The Moto 360 is the only round watch-like smartwatch on the horizon, but now the OneWatch could be one worth waiting for.

According to BGR India, the new OnePlus OneWatch is real and coming soon. While there’s only a handful of smartwatch options today, we’re expecting many others from Motorola, Samsung, HTC, Fossil and more in the coming months and later this fall. One more could be joining them from the likes of OnePlus.

What we’re seeing here is sleek round smartwatch that will reportedly be packed with tons of features and offer leather straps to boot. The first round of smartwatches are nice, but battery life is lacking, there’s no custom watch bands, and charging is a hassle. If these leaks are accurate the OneWatch could solve all of that.

According to the image above the OnePlus OneWatch will have a “saphire” glass display, which is spelled wrong and could be signs this is a fake. That being said, the rest looks quite compelling. The device will be made out of a lightweight titanium for the round watch face and body, and be offered with custom leather watch straps.

The screen will be an OLED panel to help with contract, quality, and battery life. Speaking of battery, to keep the device sleek it’s being reported that at least part of the battery will be curved and built into the straps. Although this contradicts the statement of leather straps. Then, like the Moto 360, the OneWatch will feature wireless QI charging, rather than users being required to dock the device into a small charging station.

Last but not least the image reportedly shows this smartwatch will have a user-configurable button to the side, which will usually turn on the display, but can be used for other things as well.

It’s worth noting that OnePlus is working with CyanogenMod, one of the most popular 3rd party custom Android software developers, so this could be running a custom version of Android, but should have Android Wear on board.

Earlier this year leaks of a OnePlus Tab surfaced which ended up being fake, so it’s too early to tell if the company indeed has plans to offer a smartwatch sometime this year. With Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, and even Apple all building smartwatches these days, we can expect more manufacturers like OnePlus to join the wearable craze. We’ll keep an eye our for more details, and report back once we know more regarding accuracy of this leak, pricing, and potential availability.

As a reminder, currently all reports and rumors are pointing to a mid August release date for the Moto 360.
