The Moto X Android 4.4 KitKat update has continued to arrive for multiple users and carriers around the globe over the past few months, and now we’re seeing it emerge from carriers in the United States. Last week the Verizon Moto X received Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and now another carrier is up next.

A few weeks back we heard that the Verizon Moto X would be among the first Moto X variants in the US to receive the latest Android update released by Google, and the very next week it arrived. Those on other carriers have been patiently awaiting its arrival, and now the AT&T Moto X Android 4.4.4 KitKat is in the final stages of testing.

Google had a busy month of June issuing both Android 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 KitKat updates, which put many manufacturers behind in their update plans. After first rolling out Android 4.4.3 in early June, followed by 4.4.4 KitKat at the end of the month things have been busy for all parties involved, but Motorola is pushing out updates quicker than most.

The problem with both updates arriving in June is this meant all the development needed to be stopped on 4.4.3 and moved to Android 4.4.4 KitKat, which is why we’re seeing a small delay from many manufacturers including Motorola, HTC and Samsung.

Today we learned the AT&T Moto X Android 4.4 KitKat update is undergoing what is known as a soak test. This is something we’ve seen from Motorola over the past few years, and it continues to be a sign that the update is essentially finished, getting one last round of testing, and should arrive from the carrier for all owners in the next week. Often times even sooner.

Users in the Motorola Feedback Network have started to receive invitations to test the latest Android 4.4 KitKat update for the AT&T Moto X. A few handpicked members will be able to test the over the air update, and make sure everything is running smoothly. As mentioned above, this is usually the last quick test before a major software update begins.

The AT&T Moto X never received Android 4.4.3 KitKat, for reasons mentioned above, and instead opted to have owners wait for the newest Android 4.4.4 release. Sprint’s Moto X is the only variant currently on Android 4.4.3, as Verizon also opted to skip it all-together and jump right to Google’s latest release. Which is of course, Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

Currently all AT&T Moto X owner are on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, and missing a few improvements and security patches that were introduced with both updates mentioned above. Meaning the update to Android 4.4.4 is needed, and hopefully coming extremely soon.

Usually Motorola Feedback Network soak tests conclude in less than a week, which are then followed by a swift rollout of software for users. This means that once the AT&T Moto X Android 4.4.4 KitKat update starts to arrive, it’s only a matter of days, or a week, before actual AT&T users start to see it arrive.

The update is expected to deliver some software enhancements and improvements, multiple security patches from Google delivered in Android 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 KitKat, as well as some changes to the camera. Overall quality and HDR modes have been improved, and users will be able to pause live video recording if needed.

Lastly, if the same changes from Verizon are on AT&T, which are expected, this update for the Moto X brings a new dialer to the smartphone with a new layout. Not to mention a few additional colors and tweaks to “better” the experience for all users.

Again, the AT&T Moto X Android 4.4.4 KitKat update hasn’t started yet, but has reached the final testing phase. This means the general public release should arrive within the next week or so. We’ll update the moment we know more details.
