Moto E

Speaking of Motorola, the Moto E is a very similar option as the extremely popular Moto G, but it's even cheaper. Released earlier this year for emerging markets the Moto E offers the best truly cheap smartphone available that isn't complete junk. And we mean cheap.

It comes in multiple different colors with exhangable backs, and runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat too. You'll get a 4.3-inch 540 x 960 qHD display, dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, and 4GB of internal storage. It isn't the best of the best, but the micro-SD slot for storange expansion, latest version of Android, and front facing speakers all make this completely worth the $129 asking price. Yes, we said $129.

iOS is distinguished from other operating systems in that it is closed; it resists all attempts to make arbitrary changes to it. It provides strong process to process isolation; it resists attempts by applications to interfere with the operating system itself or with other applications. While iOS provides applications with a powerful file system, it hides that system from the end user interface; the end user cannot import arbitrary programs or other file objects. The end user uses and maintains file my means of limited and purpose-applications. While Apple provides very powerful, tools for application developers, iOS itself does not provide a programming environment or application to its user.

While most of these properties are beneath the level of notice of most users, they are intended, not accidental. They have resulted in an application machine that provides infants and octagenarians with most of the advantages of the general purpose computer while requiring very little special knowledge or skill on their part. With few notable exceptions it has proven to be remarkably useable, stable, robust, and safe.

It is a remarkable achievement for which much of the credit goes to Steve.
