Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Multiplayer & Early Access Revealed

Published

on

Since earlier this summer Activision, makers of the Call of Duty franchise, have been showing off what Xbox One and PS4 users can expect from Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s detailed story. Now, the company is finally revealing the tricks, gadgets and weapons users can expect in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s robust multiplayer experience.

Revealed in a press release shortly before the GamesCom 2014 gaming event in Germany, the list of new details about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s online features is as long as critics of recent editions of the game could have hoped for.

The list of new things starts with the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s new weapons and customization. Players will be able to completely customize their character. That doesn’t just mean outfitting them with a few of the 300 custom weapons that users can create as they level-up. According to Activision, hundreds of in-game rewards will allow users to create their own character. We’re talking over 2 billion different character combinations.

CALL OF DUTY ADVANCED WARFARE

Just as Activision showed off earlier this year, Exoskeletons will give Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare players the extras they need to keep multiplayer matches fast-paced and interesting. Users will be able to combine multiple exoskeletons to change up their game style. Higher jumping, faster dodging, super-strength and even the ability to climb walls are also a part of the Exoskeleton mechanic. Users can expect a new class of energy weapons to make the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare experience even more different from past games.

A new firing range will let users test weapons they earn in the game and a new character creation tool will enable those aforementioned 3 billion character combinations. Users who play more multiplayer, will earn more gear to customize their character, according to Activision.

All told, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare seems to be progressing nicely. Whether it’ll satisfy long-term fans remains unclear, but the changes might inspire a new generation of gamers to fall in love with the series. Character customization has been something many users have been trying to convince game developers to include in their titles for years. Whether everyone will like the new power-ups and vertical combat stuff is up in the air.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is set in the year 2054. It’s a time of peace after nuclear explosions decimate key cities and leave entire world governments on their knees. A defense contractor named Atlas takes advantage of the situation, acting as a third-party standing army that answers to no government and takes orders directly from its CEO, who is played by actor Kevin Spacey. Being set in the future gives players new options and futuristic weapons to use – like that new class of energy weapons revealed today. That story alone makes it’s clear that Activision is focusing on fixing the issues that have plague the Call of Duty franchise for some time. To date, the series’ single player story lines have been a bit lackluster.

If Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is successfully, it could be the biggest thing to happen to multiplayer gaming all year. Bungie’s Destiny is about the only other first-person shooter game with a profile as high as Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Destiny will launch on September 9th though, giving users who want to experience both games a little time to save.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare launches on November 4th. That being said, users will be able to play the game a day early as long as they pre-order and pick-up the game before launch day. Being a next generation title, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was designed for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. That being said, users will be able to play it on the Xbox 360 and PS3 too.
