The iPad Air 2 release details are lining up with a new report that outlines when Apple could announce the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3, and shares details on a new iPad Air 2 feature that could change where you use your iPad and give it an edge over Amazon.

Apple is planning a new iPad Air 2 tablet with a 9.7-inch display and a new iPad mini 3 tablet with a 7.9-inch display for an event and holiday release according to many rumors. Both of these devices will feature Apple’s high-resolution Retina Display and the iPad Air 2 could include a new coating that makes it easier to use outdoors.

We’ve heard that Apple plans to announce the new iPads for 2014 in the fall, with October as a possibility and a new report lines up with this, sharing new details on the production and a possible iPad Air 2 feature that could convince some users to upgrade.

Bloomberg reports that Apple suppliers are already making the new iPads for 2014, including the iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3. These are not the official names of the new iPads, but it is what many are calling the new iPads until Apple announces them with official names as iPad Air 2nd generation and iPad mini Retina 2nd generation. Even then consumers will likely shorten the names of the new iPads to something more manageable.

The iPad Air 2 production is already in progress as Apple preps to announce the new iPad in the end of this quarter or early next. With an iPhone 6 event rumored for September 9th and an iPhone 6 release in late September, the good money is on an iPad Air 2 release in the next quarter. October is very likely, though if there are production issues it could be early November.

In the report Bloomberg’s sources claim the new iPad mini is headed to production soon and that we can expect an iPad mini 3 release by the end of the year. The rumored iWatch could make an appearance at this event or at least in this time frame.

The iPad Air 2 release window of this fall is good to know, but Apple’s releases are fairly easy to predict thanks to annual updates. What’s more exciting is the rumor of a new iPad Air 2 feature that may let users take the iPad outdoors without the hassle of finding shade to see the screen in the sun.

According to Bloomberg’s sources the iPad Air 2 will feature an anti-reflective coating that could make it easier to use in harsh lighting. It’s unlikely that this will be a full on matte display for the iPad Air 2, but it could help users that want to read and use the iPad Air 2 outdoors. The report indicates this could lead to some restrictions in manufacturing, which means the iPad Air 2 may be in short supply for the first several weeks after release. There is no indication that the iPad mini 3 will feature the same coating.

If Apple succeeds and delivers an iPad Air 2 that is easier to read in the sun, it would knock down one of major points that Amazon uses to sell the Kindle over the iPad.

There is no mention of the iPad Pro, a rumored iPad with a larger screen in the 13-inch range that could act as a laptop replacement for more users.

Leaks point to a new iPad Air 2 design, but only in small areas. Alleged iPad Air 2 photos show a recessed volume button area and a new speaker design.

With the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 in production soon, expect an iPad Air 2 release in the near future, and an iPad mini 3 soon after.

iPad mini With Retina Display

Please do yourself a favor and check out Apple's 7.9-inch iPad mini with Retina Display before you buy the iPad Air in August. It comes with many of the same features, it's just a little more portable and it's cheaper.

Apple's iPad mini with Retina Display is essentially a smaller version of Apple's iPad Air. Instead of a 9.7-inch display, it offers up a smaller 7.9-inch Retina Display with a more compact design. The smaller footprint makes the iPad mini with Retina a much easier device to take on-the-go.

Like the iPad Air, the iPad mini with Retina Display comes with an A7 64-bit processor, upgraded camera, and Apple's iOS 7 software. Some models also are capable of connecting to a 4G LTE network for extremely fast connections when Wi-Fi isn't available.

Rule it out before going with the larger model. You can thank us later.
