iPhone 5s Sale Chops Price to $79 at Walmart Craig Lloyd08/21/2014 Ahead of the upcoming launch of the iPhone 6, Walmart is slashing the price of the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c, where you can grab the flagship smartphone for just $79 after signing a two-year contract, with the iPhone 5c priced at just three cents shy of a dollar. The best part about the deal is that it will last three whole months, which will be well past the launch timeline of the iPhone 6, meaning that if you want to get a great post-iPhone 6 deal on the iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c, now is the time to do so.Advertisement These prices may sound incredible, but they’re only minor discounts from Walmart’s usual prices of the two phones, which were priced at $99 for the iPhone 5s and $29 for the iPhone 5c, making it just a $20 discount for the iPhone 5s and a $30 drop for the iPhone 5c. These are incredible prices for an iPhone because if you were to just go to the Apple Store or a carrier store and pick up a new iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c, you’d be paying at least $199 or $99, respectively. If you’re thinking about taking advantage of this deal, it’s currently available to AT&T, Verizon and US Cellular customers (sorry T-Mobile customers).Advertisement Advertisement We’ve definitely seen a fair share of iPhone deals this year, but they teetered off as we entered into the summer months. However, now that the iPhone 6 is right around the corner, stores are trying to get rid of their inventory of older iPhones and this latest Walmart deal just may do the trick. Hopefully more retailers and carrier stores will follow suit and introduce crazy iPhone 5s deals, allowing more chances for consumers to get a great deal on a great smartphone if they’re not wanting to wait for the iPhone 6. With the iPhone 6 launching this fall, we can expect Apple to naturally lower the cost of the iPhone 5s, and we’d be surprised if most retailers and carrier stores didn’t discount the device even further after the iPhone 6’s launch. We saw tons of iPhone deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday last year, as well as the days leading up to Christmas. Both the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c saw some really good price drops. The 5c has been the lowest-priced iPhone ever, even though Apple isn’t marketing the device as a budget iPhone. Instead, retailers have been turning the 5c into a budget device, discounting the phone heavily — as low as $0 on-contract from past deal. Advertisement The 2013 holiday season was probably the most discounts we’ve seen with the iPhone. Granted, the iPhone 5 saw plenty of deals back in 2012, but with there being two new iPhones this year, it’s led to twice the deals on Black Friday and Christmas, and consumers certainly weren’t complaining. Of course, other carriers have offered off-contract deals for Apple’s flagship smartphone before, with Virgin Mobile having one of the most memorable iPhone deals so far this year. Customers were able to get an iPhone 5s for as low las $385 off-contract. Of course, there’s a catch. as these iPhones are locked specifically to Virgin Mobile, meaning that you can only use them on the smaller carrier. That’s not all bad news, since there are plans available for as low as $30 per month, but if you want to take one of these iPhones to another carrier, you’ll have to unlock it, and that can cost extra money that you may or may not be willing to shell out. In any case, if you’re in the market for a new smartphone, you really can’t go wrong with this latest Walmart deal.
