The Moto X Android 4.4.4 KitKat update has been moving at an incredible pace, beating most manufacturers to the update, and now we’ve learned another major rollout has begun for more users.

This update arrived for multiple users around the globe last month, and in early August started to finally hit US carriers with Verizon first, followed by soak tests and full rollouts on AT&T and Sprint. Currently T-Mobile is still listed as running Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but those Moto X users can expect an update in the near future.

Today users in the UK with the Moto X model XT1052 will be happy to learn the absolute latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat is finally out of the oven and ready to rollout to all users across the UK. Motorola confirmed the details in their release notes this afternoon, and we can expect more details from carriers as the update continues to hit more and more users handsets.

The Moto X in the UK, and most other regions including the United States were on Android 4.4.2 nearly as soon as Google released the update, making it one of the first smartphones to run the latest version of Google’s operating system. However, Google was extremely busy in June and released both Android 4.4.3, and then a quick security and bug-fixing additional update to Android 4.4.4 KitKat that’s now the standard today.

Those in the UK will be happy to know the update will start rolling out today, although we actually received a few tips last night that owners had already started to receive the over-the-air update notification right on their smartphones. This means the UK rollout has started, and should hit all users over the course of the next few days, but can occasionally take upwards of two weeks to arrive for all users.

Just like in the United States for Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint, those in the UK can expect tons of changes and security patches behind the scenes, but not much else. While there are a few visual changes and overhauls, nothing major will be noticed once you’ve accepted and completed the update.

Via the release notes, the UK Moto X Android 4.4.4 KitKat update will deliver an improved camera experience, better focus, and a pause/resume option to recording live video. The phone dialer application will also look slightly different. Which has been redesigned to match the stock Android 4.4.3 KitKat dialer. This adds a few neat features only stock Android devices have, such as instant caller-ID using Google Search, and even a search bar at the top to find nearby stores, rather than Googling for a phone number before making a call.

There’s also one more small but irritating thing that Moto decided to finally fix with this update, and that is the carrier branding at the top left of the phones display that’s on all the time. It never goes away, and thankfully you can now head into settings and remove this. After updating the UK Moto X to Android 4.4.4 KitKat head into Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Mobile Networks > and uncheck the show carrier option. It’s small, but something that was bothersome to many owners.

This update comes right on the heels of Motorola confirming that they’ll officially reveal the all new Moto X+1, Moto G3, and Moto 360 on September 4th in Chicago, followed by the same event on the 5th in a few other regions. While we’re not sure how soon UK owners can expect those phones to be available, we’re hearing a September 10th release date is on track for US buyers.

If you have an unlocked Moto X in the UK head into settings, and check for updates, as the latest and greatest version of Android 4.4.4 KitKat should be ready and waiting.
