With the iOS 8 release date at hand, we’re starting to see app developers update applications with iOS 8 compatibility ahead of an iOS 8 release date that’s expected to arrive later on this month alongside the iPhone 6 release.

In June, Apple announced a new version of iOS dubbed iOS 8, an update that the company said would be arriving for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch sometime this fall. After months of speculation and iOS 8 beta releases, the iOS 8 release is closer than ever with Apple scheduled to talk about the iPhone and perhaps iOS 8 today at an event in DeAnza College in Cupertino.

The iOS 8 release date usually falls a few days before the new iPhone release and with an iPhone 6 release date heavily rumored for September 19th, the iOS 8 release date could land in mid-September and perhaps, on September 17th.

While the iOS 8 release still isn’t confirmed, app developers have begun preparing for the final release of iOS 8 later this year. Publishers are updating, and teasing updates, for their iOS 8 supported apps.

Blippar, an augmented reality application, has updated its application to support Apple’s upcoming iOS 8 release. The developer says that the new version of the app brings “iOS 8 Support” along with “German Language Translations.” The update arrived eight days ago which means that Blippar is primed and ready for Apple’s brand new update.

In addition to Blippar, Cisco has updated its AnyConnect application with “OS compatibility fixes (including iOS 8 support)” which means that this popular networking tool is now ready for the iOS 8 release. Flexibits, the developer behind the Fantastical 2 calendar, has also weeded out bugs ahead of the iOS 8 update and notes several in a recent change log:

  • Fixed a hang when editing a reminder’s due date on iOS 8
  • Fixed a potential crash on iOS 8 when accepting invitations
  • Fixed an autocapitalization bug on iOS 8

App developers are also teasing app updates ahead of the iOS 8 release date. tap tap tap, the developer behind the Camera+ application, is teasing a big update for its photography application and says that:

With iOS 8 right around the corner, we’ve got some pretty big things planned for the near future, both with the iPhone and iPad versions of Camera+. To tide you over until then, we’ve just put out Camera+ 5.2 with a few very nice additions, along with a handful of bug fixes.

Apple is expected the detail the iOS 8 release date alongside the iPhone 6 today at an event in Cupertino. Rumors point to the arrival of two brand new iPhone models, a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and a 5.5-inch iPhone 6, a new wearable that some believe will be called “iWatch” and more. While iOS 8 will be included in the announcements, the iPhone 6 and the wearable technology are expected to be the stars of the show.

There are many new iOS 8 features coming in this free update.

The iOS 8 update is still in the beta program though with an iPhone 6 release date close, we expect Apple to offer an iOS 8 GM in the near future. The iOS 8 GM will allow anyone access to the final version of the iOS 8 update ahead of its public release.

Apple’s brand new iOS 8 update will deliver a number of changes to iPhone and iPad users including tweaks to the design, big additions to the iMessage and Photos applications, a new smart keyboard, and a whole lot more. The update will be coming to a number of iPhones and iPads including the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad mini with Retina Display, iPad mini, and the iPod touch fifth-generation.

All of these devices should receive the iOS 8 update on the same date, a date that’s rumored to be inside of September. A specific release date should arrive today alongside Apple’s new products.
