Galaxy Note Edge Release Date Inching Closer

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date is still uncertain but that doesn’t mean that the Galaxy Note Edge release isn’t inching closer. In fact, the highly anticipated release continues to make progress behind the scenes and it appears to be on track for a clash later this year with the Galaxy Note 4 and Apple’s new iPhone 6.

Earlier this month, Samsung confirmed the Galaxy Note Edge alongside the Galaxy Note 4. On stage, Samsung confirmed many of the key Galaxy Note Edge details including its specs but the company failed to confirm many of the important specifics including the Galaxy Note Edge price and the specific Galaxy Note Edge release date.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date is confirmed for later this year, globally and in the U.S., but Samsung still hasn’t attached a specific release date to the device. While Samsung remains mum about the Galaxy Note Edge release and other details, we do know that the Galaxy Note Edge release date is inching closer thanks to movement behind the scenes.

Earlier this month, one Galaxy Note Edge variant passed through the FCC. Both Bluetooth and FCC certifications are critical components to a smartphone release and their blessing means that a smartphone is one step closer to release. Today, we’ve seen the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release clear another hurdle, a sign that the release is making solid progress.

The Galaxy Note Edge, model number SM-N915G, has been spotted passing through a Bluetooth certification. The certification, first noticed by Blog of Mobile, does not confirm an imminent release but it does show that the international Galaxy Note Edge release is inching closer to fruition. Sadly, this is only the second Galaxy Note Edge certification that we’ve seen emerge in the days since Samsung’s announcement.

On top of this new certification, it appears that Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders have begun in Germany alongside Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders. Several Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders have been spotted including pre-orders at Amazon, MediaMarkt, Notebooksbilliger, and redcon. Amazon is charging nearly €1000 for the Galaxy Note Edge, same goes for Notebooksbilliger.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is expected to be more expensive than the Galaxy Note 4 when it arrives but it’s still not clear how much the two new Galaxy Note models will cost. The Galaxy Note 4 has been priced at €699 internationally which means that we could see it land for a $650+ off-contract price in the United States. That is, if it mirrors last year’s Galaxy Note 3 pricing.

The arrival of these pre-orders is a good sign though they do come from retailers and not from Samsung’s carrier partners in Germany. It’s still not clear if U.S. carriers will be offering Galaxy Note 4 or Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders.

Samsung’s brand new Galaxy Note Edge is an odd looking smartphone that is noticeably different than the Galaxy Note 4. That’s because the Galaxy Note Edge comes with a display that is far from ordinary and the first of its kind. Instead of your standard flat screen, the Galaxy Note Edge comes with a screen that wraps around the edge of the smartphone. The feature can be seen in action in the video below.

This is going to be its biggest selling point though it comes equipped with some other likeable features including Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16 Megapixel Rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It’s a device that’s worth looking at going forward as we push toward the fall the arrival of key devices like the Moto X and Apple’s brand new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
