New Moto X Release Problems Explode

Published

on

New Moto X release date buyers just aren’t catching a break. Many Motorola fans and earlier adopters are reporting a ton of release date problems ranging from simply ordering their devices to getting shipping notifications.

Motorola announced the new Moto X early this September, just days before Apple was set to announced the iPhone 6. A few weeks later the company revealed that it had plans to make the new Moto X available for pre-order and purchase through its Moto Maker website. That’s the same site that allows users to choose for a few different colors and add leather or wood to the back of their device.

New Moto X - Moto X+1 Hands On - 2

Users who ordered the new Moto X the day Motorola first posted it to its Moto Maker online store are reporting that even today – two-days before the luckiest of users were expected to get their device –haven’t received anything beyond an email confirming that their new Moto X is being built. Reports of this are cropping up all the time, even though some lucky users are reporting that their new Moto X has already arrived as much as two days before it should have. Those who do have their new Moto X in hand are also confirming that they received no email from Motorola confirming that their device had been sent to them. If it wasn’t for FedEx alerts they wouldn’t have known it was coming.

On pre-order day users who spoke with GottaBeMobile confirmed that they were having all sorts of Moto X release problems. At first, they were unable to purchase a customized Moto X using the company’s financing service. That’s the part of the store that lets users purchase an unlocked new Moto X Pure Edition in monthly installments without having to sign up for a two-year contract. Many other users in The Moto X Reddit forums noted that they were getting estimated arrival times of October 13th, almost a month after they’d already pre-ordered their device.

Add all of this up – plus the issues with Moto Maker on pre-order day,  Motorola’s decision to not confirm or deny Friday’s rumored release of the Verizon new Moto X and this release is quickly turning into a chaos. That’s unfortunate since the launch of the new Moto X could be Motorola’s make or break moment.

The new Moto X is everything users wanted last year and more. The new Moto X has a high-definition 5.2-inch display so that everything from typing using an on-screen keyboard to watching videos is better with this year’s version.

A new quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor makes the Moto X one of the fastest available for just $499 without a two-year contract. The new Moto X even comes stuffed with many of the same usability tricks that made last year’s version such a fan favorite. Playing a song is still as easy as saying a sentence out loud. New sensors even let new Moto X buyers wave away calls with their hand more accurately than they could with last year’s version. All signs point to the new Moto X being the device Android users want and crave. It’s really too bad that the launch is becoming an outright nightmare.

For now, Motorola is only taking pre-orders for two versions of the new Moto X. There’s the one coming to AT&T with 16GB of storage and the new Moto X Pure Edition that starts at $499 and doesn’t include a contract. Both devices can be customized from Moto Maker, but AT&T users will an upgrade token before they’re allowed to customize their own device through the store. Motorola’s Punit Suni has already confirmed that Sprint has no plans to carry the new Moto X.

Does it show “shipped” in your Motorola order history? Or did it just show up?

I was one of the ones having trouble ordering using the Motorola Credit account. They finally fixed the issue 3-4 days after the pre-orders started. As a result, my device isn’t scheduled to arrive until October 13th.

And still not able to order with a Canadian credit card even if you have a US address to ship to. Can’t get a 32GB version unlocked or otherwise up North. Motorola, you are losing major market value because of your US, Mexico and somehow European exclusivity. Guess you’ll never catch up to the big boys ever with this repeated BS from last year.
