13 Galaxy Note Edge Release Date Predictions

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date still hasn’t been confirmed but it has made considerable progress over the past two weeks as Samsung works to get its Next Big Thing ready for launch. Today, ahead of its release, we want to make some Galaxy Note Edge release date predictions that touch on everything from the dates themselves to carriers to its initial price.

It has been a month since Samsung executives took the stage and announced a slew of new products including a brand new product line called Galaxy Note Edge. While its Galaxy Note 4 will be the true successor to last year’s Galaxy Note 3, the Galaxy Note Edge is a brand new product that will also deliver some explosive specs including a bent display.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge is a concept phone and one that should be intriguing to those that are looking to upgrade to a high-end smartphone. The new Galaxy Note Edge features a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus and a display unlike any other.

The device is one of the more intriguing devices left on the table for 2014 though it’s a device that is still without a firm release date in the United States and in regions around the world. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon have called confirmed the Galaxy Note Edge for arrival though none of them have been willing to commit to a specific release date this fall.

With details swirling, we want to take a crack at the Galaxy Note Edge release date in the U.S. and elsewhere and offer some bold predictions ahead of Samsung’s inevitable announcement.

Galaxy Note Edge Release Announcements Soon

At this point, with everything that we’ve seen occur in the past two weeks (FCC filings, pre-orders, leaked release dates), we’re confident that Samsung is ready to make some official Galaxy Note Edge release announcements sometime soon.

It could be that the company is simply waiting for the Galaxy Note 4 to hit its biggest markets, the last big release is the U.S. on October 17th, before announcing Galaxy Note Edge release details. It makes sense for Samsung, and its carrier partners, to focus on one release before turning their attention to another one.

We’ve said this plenty of times, we think Samsung wants (and perhaps needs) to get this phone out in some regions before the holiday shopping rush begins. Samsung typically does not announce release dates hours before the date arrives, it typically announces a few weeks ahead of time. And with the holidays fast approaching, we think there’s a good chance that we’ll finally see concrete info get pushed in October.

Galaxy Note Edge Release by Early-November

Samsung has said that its targeting a late October Galaxy Note Edge release date in Korea. We’ve also seen Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo reveal plans to get one Galaxy Note Edge model out in late October with the other color coming in November. Nothing is set in stone, and we could perhaps see delays, but we’ve seen enough progress to feel confident about a release in some regions later this month.

At this point, our best guess is an initial Galaxy Note Edge release date in late October with a few others in early November. This leaves Samsung enough time to take pre-orders, carriers to get prepared between pre-orders and release, and a nice gap between the release and the start of the holiday shopping season in late to early December.

Galaxy Note Edge Release in U.S. by Late November

All signs point to the U.S. being apart of the initial wave of Galaxy Note Edge release dates this fall and thus, we expect the U.S. Galaxy Note Edge release date to fall in and around the release dates in Korea and Japan. Black Friday is a huge day in the United States and we simply can’t see Samsung missing out. And it’s not just sales, it’s huge from a marketing standpoint as well. The more eyes on the Galaxy Note Edge the better.

The most anyone will commit to at this point is later this year or “fall” but we suspect that we won’t be seeing the Galaxy Note Edge U.S. release date in December. It’s too close to end of the shopping season. Look for Samsung and its money hungry carrier partners to get this device out before consumers head to malls across America.

Widespread Galaxy Note Edge Pre-Orders

We’ve already seen some Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders pop up in select regions (UK, Germany) but we still haven’t seen widespread Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders land for consumers around the world. We have no doubt that carriers in the U.S. and other regions will offer early orders to those looking to snag this unique device.

Look for Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders to start a few weeks ahead of its release date so that carriers and Samsung have ample time to market and build anticipation for the device ahead of its release date. We always see pre-orders for top Android devices and we have no doubt that we’ll see pre-orders for the Galaxy Note Edge in the weeks ahead.

Canada Galaxy Note Edge Release in Q1

Canada won’t get the Galaxy Note Edge until 2015 and Samsung Canada hasn’t said anything about the specific release date for the device. While we don’t have any inside information, we would be completely shocked if the device arrived outside of the first quarter which consists of January, February or March.

That’s plenty of time for Samsung to get its supply under control and it represents a fairly reasonable delay. It’s hard to imagine consumers waiting until April, May or June for a device that was announced in September. By then, we’ll probably have the new Samsung Galaxy S6, a new HTC One, and perhaps some other key devices to look at.

Very Few Release Regions

We don’t think Samsung is kidding when it comes to the Galaxy Note Edge. The company has said that the Galaxy Note Edge will be a limited release concept device and we think it’s telling the truth. We have a feeling that it’s only going to hit high-end, high-traffic regions like Japan, Korea, China, the U.S., UK, Canada, and perhaps some other nations based in Europe.

It will likely skip most countries and we would guess that it’ll be under 50 when everything is said and done. The Galaxy Note 4, by comparison, will land for 140 countries around the world.

U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note Edge Release Late, If At All

Speaking of a limited release, we have a feeling this device isn’t heading to U.S. Cellular, the United States’ fifth largest carrier. The carrier has not confirmed the device and we haven’t heard any rumblings about an upcoming release. With all four of its rivals announcing their plans well in advance, you’d think that U.S. Cellular would follow suit if it planned to release this concept smartphone.

One thing that a release has going for it is the arrival of U.S. Cellular’s LG G3, months after the other carriers released their versions. We could see something similar but we wouldn’t count on it. The LG G3 is a mainstream smartphone, the Galaxy Note Edge is a niche smartphone with a curved screen that feels gimmicky.

No Small U.S. Carriers

We don’t think it’s going to hit smaller U.S. carriers like C Spire or Cricket. These carriers never carry the Note series and there’s no reason to believe that they’ll carry an expensive product like the Galaxy Note Edge. Too risky.

Absurd Galaxy Note Edge Price

We still don’t know the exact Galaxy Note Edge price in the U.S. or around the world but it’s shaping up to be expensive. Every single sign points to a price tag that’s more than the Galaxy Note 4. And with the Galaxy Note 4 already one of the markets most expensive smartphones, we think that the Galaxy Note Edge could become one of the most expensive smartphones ever. It’s a concept after all.

With Galaxy Note 4 off-contract pricing pushing $850, we think that we’ll see some absurd Galaxy Note Edge prices on U.S. carriers. And we would not be surprised if we encountered some jaw dropping prices in other regions like Canada and Korea. This is not going to be a cheap phone and we think you’re going to be shocked by its price tag.

Limited Galaxy Note Edge Deals

We do think there will be some Galaxy Note Edge deals but given that it’s a limited device and not a mass produced Android phone, we have a feeling deals are going to be far more scarce as carriers and Samsung try and make money off this thing. Even if it doesn’t sell, we have a feeling that carriers and retailers will probably stay pretty close to the initial price tag.

Amazon is usually good for a decent discount right off the bat but we don’t expect the price drop for this device to be as sharp as it has been for devices like the Galaxy S5 and LG G3.

32GB Only in U.S.

There are two Galaxy Note Edge models, a 32GB and 64GB. Don’t expect the 64GB model in the U.S. We almost never see carriers offer two storage options any more given that Samsung’s smartphones come with a microSD card slot.

Limited Device + Weird Design = Limited Accessories

It’s a limited device with a new form factor. And because of that, we suspect that Galaxy Note Edge accessories are going to be pretty limited. We should see some but we would not expect the same kind of selection that we typically get from mainstream phones. The device is risky because it’s a new product line and we expect accessory makers to be exercise caution, at least for the first-generation model.

Limited Colors

Don’t expect there to be anything but black or white at launch. We also wouldn’t expect any new colors to arrive in 2015. If Samsung does release new colors, look for them to arrive in 2015, if at all.
