First Galaxy Note Edge Release Date Confirmed

The first Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date is now confirmed for late October with a specific Galaxy Note Edge release date now confirmed for October 23rd.

Last month, Samsung hosted an Unpacked event in Berlin, Germany where it announced a slew of new products including two new Galaxy Note models dubbed Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note 4 will be the true successor to last year’s Galaxy Note 3 and it will go on sale with a number of high-powered features starting in mid-October. The Galaxy Note Edge release date had, up until today, been non-existent with vague information pointing to a possible release after the Galaxy Note 4.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date is confirmed for later this year and in the weeks after its launch, we’ve learned that Samsung plans to get it out to Korea and Japan in the next few weeks. Today, after several days of silence, Japanese carriers confirmed an October release date for the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, becoming the first carriers to call out a specific date.

Samsung today confirmed the Japanese Galaxy Note Edge release date for late October though Japanese carriers took it a step further. KDDI, one of Japan’s largest carriers, announced that it plans to start selling the Galaxy Note Edge on October 23rd. The device will arrive in black and the company says that the white version of the Galaxy Note Edge will arrive in November. It says that it will arrive in mid-November without noting a specific date.

It appears that Japan’s biggest carrier, NTT DoCoMo, will also stock the Galaxy Note Edge in late October though it’s not clear when it plans to stock the brand new device. With Samsung calling out a release by the end of October, it leaves a very small release window for those looking to buy the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge there. Both carriers are currently taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Note Edge.

Japan becomes the first region with a confirmed Galaxy Note Edge release date though it will not be the last to acquire one. The Galaxy Note Edge is confirmed for Korea, China, the United States, UK, and Canada as well. Korea is expected to get the device in and around late October with the UK and Canada confirmed to be getting the Galaxy Note Edge after the initial release dates. Canada’s release is confirmed for 2015.

The U.S. Galaxy Note Edge release date is drawing closer though and it looks like it could be just weeks away. Earlier today, we spotted the AT&T Galaxy Note Edge, also known as the SM-N915A, crossing through the FCC on its way to shelves. While the filing doesn’t confirm a release date, it does mean that the AT&T model is now one step closer to its release.

FCC certifications are necessary before a device can hit shelves and this is the most progress the Galaxy Note Edge release date in the U.S. has made since September.

In the U.S., AT&T will be joined by Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon. It’s not clear if other carriers will join in though given the Galaxy Note Edge’s status as a limited device, the chances are slim. U.S. Cellular, the nation’s fifth largest carrier will be carrying the Galaxy Note 4, though it has not green lit the Galaxy Note Edge.

The new Galaxy Note Edge is a concept phone but one that should be intriguing to those that are looking to upgrade to a high-end smartphone. Galaxy Note Edge specs include a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus and a display that’s different than the flat display on the Galaxy Note 4.

It’s still not clear how much the Galaxy Note Edge will cost though we expect those details to arrive once Samsung and its carrier partners have a clear grasp on the release date in the U.S.
