U.S. Galaxy Note Edge Release Date Inches Closer

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date in the United States has cleared its first hurdle today as the AT&T model has been shown clearing a necessary certification ahead of the highly anticipated Galaxy Note Edge release date later this year.

In early September, Samsung held its second Unpacked event of the year and announced a slew of new products including two new Galaxy Note models dubbed Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note 4 will be the true successor to last year’s Galaxy Note 3 and it will go on sale with a number of high-powered features starting in mid-October. The Galaxy Note Edge release date has been a bit more troublesome.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date is confirmed for later this year in the United States and in the weeks after its launch, we’ve learned that Samsung plans to get it out to Korea and Japan in the next few weeks. In fact, today, Japanese carriers confirmed an October release date for the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, becoming the first carriers to out a specific date.

U.S. carriers remain silent about the Galaxy Note Edge release date but today, we finally discovered the first piece to the puzzle. The AT&T Galaxy Note Edge, also known as the SM-N915A, has crossed through the FCC on its way to shelves. While the filing doesn’t confirm a release date, it does mean that the AT&T model is now one step closer to its release. FCC certifications are necessary before a device can hit shelves and this is the most progress the Galaxy Note Edge release date in the U.S. has made since September.

AT&T’s Galaxy Note Edge release is the first to take this important step though we typically see other carriers follow suit in the days, and sometimes weeks after the first arrival. The U.S. Galaxy Note 4 FCC filings all took place within a week of each other and Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 4 release date shortly thereafter.

This is huge for those interested in the Galaxy Note Edge in the United States because it means that a release date is finally close. With a Galaxy Note 4 release date set for October 17th, we’ve spoken to many consumers who want to compare Samsung’s unique Galaxy Note Edge to the Galaxy Note 4. The two share similar specs though the Galaxy Note Edge comes with a bent display.

In the U.S., AT&T will be joined by Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon. It’s not clear if other carriers will join in though given the Galaxy Note Edge’s status as a limited device, the chances are slim. U.S. Cellular, the nation’s fifth largest carrier will be carrying the Galaxy Note 4, though it has not green lit the Galaxy Note Edge.

These carriers, like many others, will pair the Galaxy Note Edge with the Galaxy Note 4 as competitors to the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, LG G3, and the many other high-end Android devices that currently dot the landscape. They will be important additions ahead of Black Friday and ahead of the holiday shopping months ahead.

The new Galaxy Note Edge is a concept phone but one that should be intriguing to those that are looking to upgrade to a high-end smartphone. Galaxy Note Edge specs include a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus and a display that’s different than the flat display on the Galaxy Note 4.

It’s still not clear how much the Galaxy Note Edge will cost though we expect those details to arrive once Samsung and its carrier partners have a clear grasp on the release date.

I will definitely purchase this device as I am impressed with its specs and features and eagerly waiting for its availability in the major US stores. I even recently purchased a 6 Port USB Charger that can charge up to 6 Android as well as iOS based devices simultaneously with rapid charging and auto detection feature.
