Galaxy Note Edge: 5 Things Buyers Need to Know Now

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date is getting closer and today, with buyers starting to get antsy, we want to take a look at what we think are the five things you need to know, right now, about the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.

Back in early September, Samsung took the stage and announced a slew of new products including two new Galaxy Note models dubbed Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note 4 will be the true successor to last year’s Galaxy Note 3 and it will go on sale with a number of high-powered features starting in mid-October.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is a new product line and it will make its debut later on this year in the United States and select regions around the world. Like the Galaxy Note 4, the Galaxy Note Edge is a powerful smartphone and comes with an array of high octane specifications including a bent 5.6-inch Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus.

While it may not have the same appeal as the Galaxy Note 4, there are still tons and tons of people interested in Samsung’s concept smartphone as a potential replacement for their current device. Unfortunately, over the past month, Samsung has released a limited amount of Galaxy Note Edge release information to its consumers. That’s left us to pick up the pieces, something that we’ve been doing for several weeks now.

Over the past month, we’ve been tracking the Galaxy Note Edge release in an effort to keep interested buyers up to date with the latest details. In the past two weeks, we’ve finally started to see the Galaxy Note Edge release date make some serious progress. And with the the holidays fast approaching, we want to fill you in on what we think are the five most important details of the bunch.

First Galaxy Note Release Date: October

The first thing that all prospective Samsung Galaxy Note Edge buyers need to know is that the first Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date is now confirmed for October and more specifically, October 23rd.

Earlier this week, Japanese carriers confirmed an October release date for the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge thus becoming the first carriers to call out a specific Galaxy Note Edge release date. Samsung also confirmed the Galaxy Note Edge release date for late October though Japanese carriers took it one step further for their customers.

KDDI recently announced plans to start selling the Galaxy Note Edge on October 23rd. The device will arrive in black and the company says that the white version of the Galaxy Note Edge will arrive in November. NTT DoCoMo will also stock the Galaxy Note Edge in late October though it’s not clear when it plans to start selling it.

This is important because it means that the Galaxy Note Edge release is on track for 2014, something that should soothe the minds of those who were or still are worried about a potential delay in its initial release regions. While we could still see something happen, it looks like the Galaxy Note Edge release is only a few days away.

U.S. Galaxy Note Edge Release Date

We still don’t have any official release dates but consumers should know that the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date in the United States is going to be coming soon.

Earlier this week, we spotted the AT&T Galaxy Note Edge, also known as the SM-N915A, crossing through the FCC on its way to shelves. While the filing didn’t confirm a release date, it’s a clear sign of the U.S. Galaxy Note Edge release date making progress behind the scenes. AT&T’s Galaxy Note Edge wasn’t the only Galaxy Note Edge to move closer this week though.

Yesterday, another U.S. bound Galaxy Note Edge model passed through the FCC’s clutches. The T-Mobile Galaxy Note Edge release date is one step closer now that it has passed certifications at the FCC. The filing does not reveal the Galaxy Note Edge release date in the U.S. or for T-Mobile though again, it’s a sign that the release in the U.S. is drawing closer.

Sprint and Verizon should be next in line and after they pass through, perhaps this weekend or next week, we will likely see U.S. carriers and Samsung announce release details. At this point, November is looking pretty good.

U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note Edge

While the AT&T Galaxy Note Edge passed through the FCC with U.S. Cellular bands on board, the carrier has confirmed that it currently has no plans to offer this phone. That could change down the road but given how close we are to the device’s release, we’re not banking on a release date coming any time in the near future. Samsung’s focus will likely be on the Galaxy Note Edge release on the top four carriers in the U.S. so temper those expectations.

Galaxy Note Edge Release Delays

The U.S., Japan, China and Korea, are expected to be a few of the initial Galaxy Note Edge release regions while other regions like the UK and Canada will not get the Galaxy Note Edge at launch. Samsung Canada recently confirmed a Galaxy Note Edge release for 2015 while Samsung UK remains tight lipped about its release. UK based retailers though have told consumers to prepare for a delayed release.

What this means for other regions outside the initial four is unclear but the Galaxy Note Edge appears to still be on track for an extremely limited release. In other words, if you live outside of a high-end market, the chances of you getting the Galaxy Note Edge, at least during the first go-round, are very, very slim. Once again, temper those expectations going forward.

Galaxy Note Edge Price MIA

Finally, this needs to be pointed out. Despite all of these new release details, the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge price remains missing in action in the United States and in regions around the world. The Galaxy Note Edge is expected to be far more expensive than the Galaxy Note 4 though as of right now, the question is “by how much”? That’s something we simply cannot answer at this point.

What we can say is that the Galaxy Note Edge price announcement is probably close, at least for buyers in the U.S. We fully expect pricing to be detailed alongside pre-orders and the device’s specific release date and with FCC filings moving quickly, we could see all of this information revealed in mid-to-late October.

Be patient and optimistic but at this point, we’re expecting an extravagant price point.
