This Samsung Galaxy Android 4.4 KitKat update breakdown will bring you up to speed on the latest Galaxy Android 4.4.2 KitKat, Galaxy Android 4.4.4 KitKat update and Galaxy Android L update news.

Since January, Samsung has been delivering Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates to select devices in the United States and abroad. We’ve seen updates push out to the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 2, and even the aging Samsung Galaxy S3. The update, as many Galaxy device owners know, delivers a host of new features and fixes.

In the midst of this Android 4.4.2 KitKat update roll out, we’ve also seen Samsung begin to pump out Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates for select smartphones and tablets. Android 4.4.4 KitKat is a bug fix update that helps to improve Samsung’s Galaxy-branded devices ahead of Google’s Android L release, a release that’s slated for later this year.

So, at the moment, we have three Samsung Galaxy Android updates in the mix. An aging Android 4.4.2 KitKat update, the new and improved Android 4.4.4 KitKat update, and the Android L update that Samsung will almost certainly push out to top devices in the weeks, and months, after Google’s initial Android L release for Nexus smartphones and tablets. For those that don’t follow Android updates on a daily basis, it can all be a lot to handle. That’s where we come in.

With all of these Android KitKat update details swirling, we want to breakdown the latest news and offer Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy Note 2 a glimpse at the current situation regarding Android 4.4.2 KitKat, Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and the unannounced Android L update for Galaxy devices.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat Roll Out Continues

Samsung’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat update continues to roll out and despite the arrival of Samsung’s Android 4.4.4 KitKat update, there’s no sign that it’ll be slowing down anytime soon.

SamMobile’s Android update tracker has been pumping out updates and the chart shows that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat is still very much in play. Updates continue to roll out for the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2, and even the Galaxy S5. The Samsung Galaxy S5 arrived with Android 4.4.2 KitKat on board so its Android 4.4.2 updates are just bug fixers.

Many Samsung Galaxy devices remain on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean though that looks like it will change soon. Australian carriers are very forthcoming about Android update information and we pass along their information in an effort to paint a broad picture for Samsung Galaxy device owners around the world. And in the past two weeks, we’ve seen several update their schedules to reflect their future Android 4.4 plans.

Optus, Telstra and Vodafone have all produced updated schedules and all three include Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates. Vodafone is currently rolling out two Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates and it looks like it could roll out a few more before the year is done. Optus is also planning to roll out a trio of Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates before October is over while Telstra is planning to do the same.

What this means is that some devices won’t be jumping up to Android 4.4.4 KitKat from Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Instead, some carriers will continue to push out Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates with bug fixes and new features strapped aboard.

This doesn’t just apply to the international community either. The Android 4.4.2 KitKat roll out is alive and well in the United States too. Verizon is currently pushing a new Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update that includes numerous bug fixes and enhancements. This despite the fact that other U.S. carriers have already pushed out Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update Release Ongoing

Samsung Galaxy users are also in the midst of an Android 4.4.4 KitKat push. Android 4.4.4 KitKat serves as a small bug fix update and the likely bridge between Android 4.4.2 KitKat and Android L. And while it’s being delivered to a number of different devices, Samsung has been very selective about the roll out and it remains missing in action for most users.

The Android 4.4.4 KitKat update has landed for the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 10.1, and the Galaxy S3 for select carriers in select parts of the world. It’s a very exclusive update though we could potentially see it roll out for a slew of other devices ahead of the Android L release in the months ahead.

Vodafone Australia’s update says that its waiting on a Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update from Samsung and that at this point the version is unknown. Samsung’s already delivered Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update in Australia so an update to Android 4.4.4 KitKat is not out of the question. The carrier says the same thing about an upcoming Android 4.4 update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1.

Samsung’s also confirmed several Sprint Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates including one for the Galaxy S5. From what we’ve heard that update still isn’t rolling out OTA but it looks like a release could be imminent.

It’s clear that Samsung’s going to be pushing out more Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates though users in the U.S. and around the world shouldn’t expect to hear much ahead of time. Samsung and most of its carrier partners remain silent about Android 4.4.4 KitKat and while Australian carriers like to offer early information, most carriers confirm updates on the day that they roll out.

Android L Release Rumored

Android L is Google’s next major update and it’s rumored for an arrival this fall alongside a Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. And while some companies have confirmed Android L (HTC One, Moto X), Samsung still isn’t talking about Google’s next update.

A rumor from SamMobile though puts Samsung’s first Android L updates in November or December. Samsung still hasn’t confirmed either of these updates though the release falls in line with what Samsung’s done in the past.

The company’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat update landed first for the Galaxy Note 3 before arriving on the Galaxy S4. After it landed for those two flagships, it moved onto lesser known tablets and smartphones.
