Galaxy Note Edge Release Date: What We Know Right Now

Published

on

With a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release date set for this Friday, consumers in some of Samsung’s biggest markets are starting to prepare for its arrival. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 isn’t the only Galaxy Note set to arrive in October though. Consumers need to be aware of the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date as we march deeper into the fall toward Black Friday and the holidays.

Back in September, Samsung took the stage and announced several new products including two new Galaxy Note models dubbed Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 will be the true successor to last year’s Galaxy Note 3 and it will go on sale with a number of high-powered features starting in mid-October. In fact, the Galaxy Note 4 release date is just days away in the United States, UK, and India.

Samsung’s other device is the Galaxy Note, a device that’s similar to the Galaxy Note 4 in a lot of ways. The biggest difference between the two new Galaxy Notes is the Galaxy Note Edge’s curved display. Its 5.6-inch Quad HD display wraps over the side of the device offering users more screen real estate with which to work.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date is a whole different beast. In the month and a half since Samsung’s launch, the Galaxy Note Edge release date has made considerable progress though there are still some mysteries about. We’ve taken a look at what we expect from the Galaxy Note Edge release, both in the U.S. and around the world, and now it’s time to take a look at the facts.

With a Galaxy Note 4 release just days away, we want to help prospective buyers prepare for the arrival of Samsung’s in-house Galaxy Note 4 competitor, the Galaxy Note Edge. This updated preview takes a look at everything we currently know about the Galaxy Note Edge release date, one that’s official in some places and unannounced in others.

First Galaxy Note Edge Release Just Days Away

You may have heard. The first Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date has been confirmed and it’s for Japan. Japan gets the Galaxy Note Edge first, before Korea and the U.S., and it will be getting the Galaxy Note Edge starting in late October. A teaser video for the Galaxy Note Edge teases the date and the device ahead of its release.

KDDI, a Japanese carrier, has confirmed an October 23rd Galaxy Note Edge release date. Fellow Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo will also release the Galaxy Note Edge in late October though it hasn’t been as forthcoming with information. It should release the device in and around that initial October 23rd release date though.

We should note that KDDI says that its white Galaxy Note Edge won’t be coming until November. It hasn’t supplied an official date and it looks like Samsung may have needed more time to perfect that version. It’s not clear if other carriers or regions will offer the same staggered release.

U.S. Galaxy Note Edge Release Date Making Progress

The U.S. was one of the first regions to confirm the Galaxy Note Edge with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon confirming it right out of the gates. Since then, we’ve heard nothing but silence. That said, we know that the Galaxy Note Edge U.S. release date is making progress behind the scenes and there’s a chance that we’ll see an announcement soon.

Both the AT&T and T-Mobile Galaxy Note Edge variants have crossed through the FCC on their way to shelves. FCC certifications are a necessary step towards release and as we’ve pointed out numerous times, we saw Samsung announce the U.S. Galaxy Note 4 release just days after the final model passed through the FCC’s clutches.

The Galaxy Note Edge release announcement will likely come after the Sprint and Verizon models cross over though there is no telling how long that might take. Certifications are unpredictable and typically arrive without any sort of warning. Typically though, filings will cluster around one another so there’s a chance that we’ll see the two others pass soon.

Nothing is confirmed but it certainly looks like the Galaxy Note Edge release date is on track for later this year.

U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note Edge Likely Out

U.S. Cellular has not confirmed the Galaxy Note Edge and at this point, consumers should not bank on the United States’ fifth largest carrier stocking the curved version of the Galaxy Note.

While the AT&T model seems to support U.S. Cellular LTE bands 5 and 12, the carrier recently shot down any notion of a Galaxy Note Edge coming to its network. It’s also worth noting that the Galaxy Note Edge pre-registration page only lists four carriers as opposed to five for the Galaxy Note 4. U.S. Cellular is missing from the Galaxy Note Edge drop down.

U.S. Cellular isn’t as popular or as large as the other four U.S. carriers but it still would have provided a nice option to those that live in its coverage areas.

Galaxy Note Edge Pre-Orders

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders are live in Japan ahead of its October arrival which makes sense. The pre-orders that are taking place in the United Kingdom and Germany though don’t make much sense because we’re still without pricing or release dates for those regions.

The UK Galaxy Note Edge release date that Samsung says will be announced at a later date still hasn’t popped up and Clove UK, the only carrier talking Galaxy Note Edge release, hasn’t offered any updates since it said that the UK and Europe would not be among the initial launch countries. U.S. carriers haven’t announced their plans yet.

As we’ve pointed out, Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders should be avoided at all costs anyway.

Galaxy Note Edge Competition

Finally, Galaxy Note Edge buyers will be happy to hear that most, if not all top competitors will be out on shelves ahead of the Galaxy Note Edge’s arrival. The Galaxy Note 4 hits shelves on Friday and it looks like Motorola’s Nexus 6 and Droid Turbo will both land sometime in the next three weeks. All three devices are serious Galaxy Note Edge challengers and will join competitors like the Galaxy S5, iPhone 6 Plus and LG G3.

Nexus-6-press

This is huge because it means buyers should be able to go hands on with the biggest threats to the Galaxy Note Edge ahead of its arrival. As we’ve noted, this is extremely important because of the Galaxy Note Edge’s features which include the bent display, S Pen and a price tag that could be extremely expensive.

Look for Nexus 6 release details, Droid Turbo release details and Galaxy Note Edge release details to continue to emerge in the hours, days and weeks ahead.
