Android 5.0 Easter Egg is Flappy Birds

Published

This week Google announced its latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Android operating system, and it’s set to start arriving for users later this month. After quickly installing the early developer preview we found a little treat. The Android 5.0 Lollipop Easter Egg is Flappy Birds.

As many of you may know, each version of Android has what Google calls an Easter Egg. Little hidden things inside of the operating system. While we know there’d be some sort of Lollipop here with Android 5.0, we didn’t expect a surprise like Flappy Birds. Now this could be limited to the developer preview only, but check it out below.

Starting today those with a Nexus 5 or the 2013 WiFi Nexus 7 can get the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop early, ahead of the over the air updates for regular users later this month. This is a developer preview only, so users may want to hold off. That being said, it’s running perfectly smooth here and we’ll have plenty of hands-on coming up soon.

While we’re just now starting to dig into the Android 5.0 Lollipop software, as we only received it moments ago, one thing we quickly noticed was the Android 5.0 Lollipop Easter Egg. As we mentioned above, every version of Android has it, and rather than explaining we’ll just let you see it yourself.

Simply head into settings > about phone > and tap the “Android version” multiple times and you’ll see the first Easter Egg. This shows a Lollipop, and every version of Android since the beginning has shown its respective name and Android version on this screen. But what follows is the fun part.

Tap the Lollipop a few times and you’ll get different colors for flavors, considering Android comes in many shapes, sizes, and flavors to fit an array of users needs and preferences. If you push and hold, the second Easter Egg is the killer and extremely frustrating game Flappy Birds. Yes, Android Flappy Birds bouncing between Lollipops.

The game Flappy Birds is one many will probably recognize, as earlier this year it was released with crazy amounts of success. Basically the game was so simple and frustrating that it led users to either love it, or uninstall the game almost immediately. For whatever reason it was wildly popular for months and months, with clones appearing by the hundreds on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Now you don’t need a clone, or even the real Flappy Birds, because on Android 5.0 Lollipop the game is hidden right inside of the operating system. More details on Android 5.0 are coming up soon so stay tuned!
