Google’s brand new Nexus 6 smartphone which was announced last week won’t be arriving in carrier stores or be available from the Google Play Store until sometime in November, but we’re still slowly learning more details regarding the Nexus 6 release.

The company quickly announced the Nexus 6, Nexus 9 tablet, Nexus Player and the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update early last week after months of rumors and speculation, and the smartphone launch had a few surprises. The biggest one being that all five major US carriers will offer the new Nexus 6.

On Monday Google confirmed Nexus 6 Pre-orders will kick off on October 29th, but buyers are still wondering what to expect from carriers, when it will be available, how much, and what models will be offered. And while we don’t know all the details yet, new information has arrived today from T-Mobile regarding its Nexus 6 launch.

Premium features mean a premium Nexus 6 price.

When Google announced the Nexus 6 last week many were extremely surprised to see it would be available from all carriers in the United States, including Verizon. This is the first Nexus to be sold in such a way, rather than only being available directly from Google’s Play Store.

However, Google will still offer the fully unlocked model themselves, and possibly carrier variants as well, but so far that’s yet to be confirmed as we wait for the October 29th pre-order page to open and start taking orders.

Today T-Mobile confirmed once again that the Nexus 6 will be available both online and in stores on November 12th. This is the only solid release date we have thus far, but it’s highly likely Google’s pre-orders and other carriers will have a similar release date scheduled. As the date grows near more details should emerge from each carrier.

The tweet above comes from a T-Mobile Product Manager and guru who’s confirmed the company won’t be selling the expensive 64GB Nexus 6 in stores. Instead, this will be an online exclusive. This means only the white or blue 32GB Nexus 6 will be available on launch day, unless you’ve pre-ordered the 64GB version online.

This year the Nexus 6 isn’t a cheap wallet-friendly smartphone like previous years, and will cost $649 for the 32GB model, and $699 for the 64GB version. It’s this that has many wondering if carriers will offer both, or simply just the 32GB option only. For now it’s confirmed that T-Mobile will have both, but we’ve yet to hear from other carriers regarding specific Nexus 6 release details, dates, or even pricing.

Given T-Mobile’s past and its lack of contracts, most users can expect to pay $0 down for the Nexus 6, and 24 monthly payments around $28 a month until it’s paid in full. Other carriers will have something similar with AT&T Next, Verizon Edge, as well as usual 2-year contracts. We’re expecting a $199 on-contract price, but will update once we know for sure.

Nexus 6 Specs

  • 5.96-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Display
  • 2.7 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 805 processor with 3GB of RAM
  • 32GB/64GB internal storage
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop
  • 13 Megapixel camera with OIS, 2 MP front camera (4k video capture)
  • Dual Ring Flash similar to Moto X
  • Dual Front-facing speakers
  • Aluminum frame around device like the new Moto X 2014
  • 3,220 mAh battery

The prices detailed above are rather expensive, but this is a top-tier smartphone that will be taking on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the iPhone 6 Plus, LG G3, and many other premium devices released inside of 2014. As you can see above, the Nexus 6 has some of the best specs and features of any smartphone released so far this year, including a quad-hd 5.96-inch display.

Again, the Nexus 6 will be $649 and $699 for the 32 and 64GB version, available on all five major US carriers, and should start arriving on or around November 12th with T-Mobile and others.
