New Assassin’s Creed Unity Trailer Shows off In-Game Extras

Buyers of Assassin’s Creed Unity this November likely already know that they can expect to murder some enemies and spend a lot of time sneaking into locations they shouldn’t be in. A new trailer from developer Ubisoft is giving users another hard look at what they can expect besides story missions and assassinations when Assassin’s Creed Unity arrives for the PS4 and Xbox One on November 11th.

In the new trailer potential Assassin’s Creed Unity buyers get their first look at all the side missions that’ll be scattered across the in-game city of Paris. It’s these missions that’ll allow them to customize and level up their character outside of the core campaign.

Scattered throughout the very big recreation of Paris will be Murder Mysteries, Treasure Hunts, Paris Stories, Heists and Café Theatres.

Murder Mysteries are what they sound like. In Assassin’s Creed Unity users will be able to investigate the deaths of some Parisians for in-game weapons and extras. Instead of giving players a completely new tool set to work with for Murder Mysteries, Ubisoft has opted to enable Eagle Vision so that they can look for clues around the bodies they find.

From what we see of Paris Stores, it’s pretty clear that they’re kind of retooled contracts. Users get a task and a logical reason to complete that task. There’s story involved, but the biggest change is that all of them don’t necessarily involve killing someone in the street.

With a city as big as the replica of Paris in Assassin’s Creed Unity, it’s essential that Ubisoft gives players a reason to explore what they’ve created. Sure, casual players might search around a bit, but without something meaningful to gain hard-core players might just seek out story missions and skip the scenery. Treasure Hunts will act as an incentive for players to free roam around the city much in the same way tracking down chests did in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. What’s different here is that they’ll be joined by Heist missions that let users team up to track down in-game extras.

Progress for all of these different types of missions will be trackable at the Café Theatre. There Assassin’s Creed Unity players will be able to make upgrades to their character too.

Announced this past summer, Assassin’s Creed Unity is the next major release in the long running Assassin’s Creed franchise. Besides these side missions the game includes a new story that’s set completely in Paris. Ubisoft has ditched the ship mechanics from recent games in favor of returning to pure metropolitan European game play. Buyers will play as Arno Dorian, a new member of the Assassin Order. His story starts just before the Paris is rocked by the French Revolution.

Only owners of an Xbox One, PS4 or PC will be able to play Assassin’s Creed Unity. By shedding backwards compatibility, Ubisoft was able to make some essential and crucial upgrades to the Assassin’s Creed experience we’re used to. Players have always been able to climb up buildings, but in Assassin’s Creed Unity players will be able to climb down buildings too. Interior and exterior environments have all been weaved into a single experience too.

The biggest changes are in the mission players complete. In past games, mission objectives were pretty relentless. There was a sandbox, but for the most part, failing to complete a task in the way instructed meant having to start from the last checkpoint again. In Assassin’s Creed Unity mission objectives sort of change depending on the situation. At least, that’s what Ubisoft seems to be trying to convey.

Assassin’s Creed Unity will be available for digital download and purchase on November 11th. It’ll cost $59.99 for the core game. Users who want the downloadable content coming over the next year will want to plan for a Season Pass. It costs $29.99 extra.
