Nexus 6 Pre-Order Problems Strike

After months of rumors and waiting earlier this month Google’s brand new Nexus 6 smartphone was finally announced, and starting today it’s available for pre-order. Sort of. Last week Google confirmed pre-orders would be available starting today, October 29th, and as expected they’re available, but not without a slew of problems.

Similar to the awful experience users received with the Nexus 4, and the Nexus 5 last year, Google’s new Nexus 6 release isn’t going smooth. The pre-order page went live this morning, and the device sold out in under 2 minutes. Nexus 6 pre-order problems continue to plague buyers right now, as the device is currently “out of inventory”.

Google announced the new Nexus 6, a Nexus 9 tablet, the Nexus Player, and the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop all earlier this month, and now all three are available for buyers to order. The Nexus 9 pre-order situation was smooth, easy, and shipping estimates are right on time for November 3rd, but the situation for the other two aren’t good, and are getting worse by the minute. This morning just after 10 AM PT, Google’s Nexus 6 went up for pre-order on the Google Play Store. It sold out in under 2 minutes, which beats the 49 minutes last year with the Nexus 5. Last year the Nexus 5 sold out for release day delivery within 49 minutes, but that was for delivery on the release date. We still don’t have a release date for the Nexus 6, which makes this release confusing and prospective buyers worried about pre-orders.

The 32 and 64GB Nexus 6 are both listed as “We are out of inventory. Please check back soon” but after a few refreshes of the page they quickly reappear. Some users have reported success where they’re then able to add the Nexus 6 to their cart, proceed to buy, and order the flagship new smartphone. We managed to get one ourselves, and it’s expected to ship on November 21st. Meaning the 21st could be the official Nexus 6 release date.

That being said, the Nexus 6 pre-order problems continue to mount. Others have reported stock being gone in seconds, and many that are able to actually see the Nexus 6 listed “in stock” can’t actually buy it. Adding it to your cart fails and the user is simply met with a big blank screen saying their shopping card is empty.

While trying to order the new Nexus 6 in any color, or storage configuration (if it’s listed in stock) we’re now met with this screen. Meaning we’re trying to buy it, and once we add it to our cart to purchase the Google Play Store automatically removes it. Users and potential buyers are taking to Twitter with their frustration.

Currently the Nexus 6 is listed as out of inventory in all options being offered by Google. The pre-order sales sold out in what appears to be less than 5 minutes. It’s now been nearly 1 hour and there are no signs of more stock being made available, at least not yet.

The Nexus 5 release went quite horrible, with a very similar experience as we’re seeing today. Many expected a smooth pre-order operation like the Nexus 9, but that simply isn’t the case. However, we have good news.

Google’s Nexus 6 will be available from all five major carriers in the United States. Those being AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, US Cellular, and yes, even Verizon Wireless. While no carriers have confirmed an actual release date, we’ve heard November 12th multiple times from T-Mobile, so more details should arrive soon.

It looks like the Nexus 6 release date will be late November, if not early December for most users in the United States, and we’ll update once we learn more. Shipping times are already pushed to 3-4 weeks out, so we’ll have to wait and see.
