Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Details Emerge

The first batch of credible Samsung Galaxy S6 release details have emerged today just a few weeks after Samsung released the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge and several months after the company delivered its current flagship, Samsung Galaxy S5.

In April, Samsung released the its follow up to the Galaxy S4 in the form of the Galaxy S5, a device that features one of the best smartphone displays on the market, a new plastic design, faster processor, improved camera and TouchWiz software, and more. While the Galaxy S5 is one of the year’s best smartphones, the device has not been able to pull up Samsung’s fledgeling mobile division.

Weeks ago, the company announced two new smartphones in the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge, two large screen devices that will compliment the Galaxy S5 this holiday shopping season. This smartphone lineup should hold through the beginning of the year though it looks like Samsung is preparing a replacement for the Galaxy S5, a Galaxy S6 release that could be a major upgrade from the current model.

Samsung Galaxy S6 rumors have been scarce in the months since the Galaxy S5 release and the weeks since the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge release but per usual, it looks like we’re going to hear a lot more about the device this fall as we lead into the new year and Samsung’s usual Galaxy S launch window in Q1 and Q2.

According to SamMobile, a reliable publication that often leaks accurate Galaxy smartphone rumors, the “Galaxy S6 is in its early stages of development” and is called Project Zero behind the scenes. This is a departure from Samsung’s usual codenames which have included Project J for the Galaxy S4 and Project K for the Galaxy S5. The publication asserts that the change could reflect the massive changes that are coming with the Galaxy S6, a device that Samsung surely hopes will turn its fortunes around.

The Galaxy S6 release is in its early stages which means that specifications and features are still hard to nail down. Typically, Samsung puts several prototypes through its testing process which results in numerous sets of rumored specs and features. The device will supposedly come with a “new vision” and the company’s expected to start from scratch. It’s not clear what that means for the Galaxy S6 design or Galaxy S6 specs though Samsung always offers upgrades on its Galaxy S flagship.

With a shift to more premium designs with the plastic and metal Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note Edge smartphones, Samsung could look to roll out a premium design that challenges the designs found on Apple’s iPhone and HTC’s One smartphone. Improvements to the screen, camera and processor are all likely as well given that these have been upgraded year after year.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 release date remains out of reach and it’s not clear if the company plans to follow its usual release pattern. The last two Galaxy S models, the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5, were both announced in Q1 and released in April ahead of the summer. Last year, Samsung used Mobile World Congress to announce the Galaxy S5 during an Unpacked event. MWC 2015 is scheduled to take place in early March, stretching from March 2nd to March 5th.

Samsung Galaxy S6 release rumors will likely start to firm up in first quarter of 2015 as Samsung finalizes its plans. For now, the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Note Edge will serve as the company’s high-end offerings and the direct challengers to top flight devices like the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and the aging LG G3.
